when i was younger i use to hear my name being called while i was sitting quietly on the sofa looking out the window. natually i thought it was my mum shouting me from the kitchen but when i got there she say she hadnt called me at all or on some occasions nobody but myself would be in the house. i told the voice 2 go away and it did but a couple of weeks later i heard a different voice but was fed up of asking who it was, after once again questioning my mum, i said go away but it didnt. this voice was only heard by me normally when i was alone. i nicknamed it the virgin mary {i was brought up roman catholic} and honestly thought it was Her. i decided to ignore it in the end plus it was freaking my mum out cuz of the weird things that was happening around me. after a while it went.
was it angels or guides trying to contact me? any input would be great thanks.

Would you be here if it were not for those voices?

I have heard my name called once, when i was concentrating on the static noise within myself before falling asleep on the couch right after i got home from school. I woke up and flipped up quickly only to see an empty room. It was soft and angelical, beautiful.

To question oneself: "Why would i call to myself? And by my own name?"

This we know now from such questions that the voice is external.. Heard internally, yes, but the source of which is external, on a whole other plane of existence.

Who then is it? A relative? An "appointed" Angel from God himself to look after us?

Meditate upon it and you will find the answer.. To satisfy you for the short-term i ask, "Does it matter?" God knows how much and how many times i've wanted to know who was with me at various times but to myself, "Does it matter?" Does it matter that i hear the light-bulbs speak a name? Of what relationship is there between us? To what knowledge must we gain before we lose sight that divine presence? If you knew everything about the source of the voice, what would it matter to you then? It is to stay a path, a pushing force as to keep you interested that you never lose sight of your purpose. You will never stop wondering until your time has come. When you lose your path a new and different sign will shown upon you as to call you back.
I'm sorry but you're in this for life! There's no going back! Move forward. Deal with the thoughts, try to unweave the confusion you brew, or if you ever want to blame them for brewing it than blame them.. The fact will remain the same, i talked to light-bulbs many times, we've all talked to seemingly "thin-air".. We all do seemingly dumb things in the quest to find ourselves, our path, our way home, and no matter how many times we do it we keep doing it because we know there is something greater than our imagination can concieve of.. If that were not so than we would be God himself!
Call it your Guardian Angel by the idea that the experience has shifted you or kept you on the path to self-realization by keeping you amazed with wonder and interest and saved you from possible many more lives of needless agony.

Think on this:
One of Jesus' disciples was beheaded while another exiled. The one beheaded came to the one exiled at which time the exiled one began to worship the Spirit-body from the beauty and feeling which came over the one exiled upon seeing the Spirit-body.. At this time the Spirit-body said 'Stop! I am "so-and-so", we worship the same God!'

when someon call your name. these kind of ghosts are not harmfull. but they would do some stuff that would freak u out. like calling ur name or shaking ur bed etc. they want ur attention. there is something that only u could do for them and no one else could. thats why u r the only one could hear or see them. there story has to do with u only. there could be something that has happened where ever those voices were coming from. when u heard the voice u should listen from what direction its coming from and then try to find something in that area. im sure there has to something there.

but remember ghosts cant harm u till u r the one who gets scared anf have fear.

I agree with Happi. Some who cales your name will your attention. They could be good or bad spirits. Angels don´t need to call you they are there all the time. They protect without our knowing. Be carefull with those voices...
