A phrase used often in magic rituals to close a chant or incantation. This has been in widespread usage since many years.

It's been in use for many centuries in fact.  And for the record, the proper pronunciation for "Mote" is in fact "Mot" (rhymes with cot). It's spelled "M-O-T-E" but it is pronounced "M-O-T". I hear people get this wrong all the time and it's like nails on chalkboard. Also for those with an interest in etymology; it's Gaelic.
