Crone

A term of respect used for a witch who has passed menopause or who is over 50-56 years old.

The "Crone" is a witch who has come into "Crone" status because of her years of knowledge and wisdom, she is in perfect balance and awareness. Generally referred to as "older" women because of their many years of experience. One does not need to go through menopause to achieve "Crone" status, a woman can come into this age of wisdom even in her 40s, depending on how she has learned to handle all the experiences of life, inner awareness and balance. "Hecate" is known as the "Crone Goddess", or "Triple Moon Goddess".

Crone status is an earned honor, and is bestowed independently of physical or mental age. It is not a right that anyone can claim at menopause.

This is what I understood, but I have found that there are different beliefs about this. Which is the norm in the Pagan community.

I heard of a ritual where women who were past menopause were all invited to a croning ritual. I didn't attend. I too believe it is an honor beyond age.
And, I also need to honor that many see Crones as women who are past child bearing age. Maiden, Mother and Crone.
