There is some material (natural mixture) i have that i say is the fragrance of beauty.. Don't know the name but i do know it's of Indian descent. It's not for burning, though.

It's da-scent from da India!

I'm so afraid of it, though because it's so wonderful, i don't sniff often for fear the fragrance will go away! : (

For smudging I usually use sage, either white sage (which does not winter well in Maryland so buying it is the only real option most times) or another type of sage which does grow and weather well here. Tobacco is another one, occasionally lavender (which my grove and I both grow) and cedar.

Last week I used white sage leaves and dragons blood, clearing then protection...on the simplest note.


I do love love love nag champa's smell but it is for pleasure, for lucid dreams, astral travel, not for energy clearing, in my world.  But vanilla is my all time favorite.

I do use specific scents for specific things, I am very olfactory oriented and a smell can evoke energy from me faster than a high pitched drum circle, so I use what I know hehe. A hypothetical example: For money one might burn five finger grass but that smell means nothing to me, patchouli on the other hand, now that is a scent I can sink my teeth into so that is what I would use.


Making incense, well the powder stuff to burn on bricks I do just fine making but have never gotten a stick recipe to stick so to speak. (I do use salt petre) You can buy punk sticks and soak them but that is cheating to me hehe. I might try again using more benzion or guar gum not sure when though. One of my Grove mates wants to give it a shot again but I have so many workshops I am teaching already we might wait to explore this next year.

The problem with where I come from, most of the herbs are very difficult to come across or they are around but in another name. What is five finger grass? I need to get a bonfire started with this one   . Do you where on the internet can I buy them (herbs etc) inexpensively? Tks. Roz
