Is it possible to piss off your totem animal?

I've seen a lynx in connection to my BF, and lately apparently he and other people have seen it too. I've always accepted it to be his totem animal. But he has said to me that he has seen it and it has been snarling and swiping at him. He's been acting like quite a jerk lately, to be frankly honest, and I think a lot of people aren't too happy with him at the moment. I am wondering if its possible that he's pissed off his totem animal somehow?

I haven't heard of it happening, but I guess it could be possible.

I would like to suggest that it might be more likely that your boyfriend is avoiding some challenge
and thus the lynx is encouraging him to move onward.

Sometimes the totem animal changes too,
thus once your boyfriend begins to take on the challenge
or strive to achieve his ambition, the lynx may leave and
another totem take its' place.

Do suggest to your boyfriend that he strive harder at
work as there may be a promotion coming in May.

Well said Sapphoq.  That's what it sounds like to me.

My Spirit Animal Guide is a Hawk.  I know that when the Hawk shows up there is something happening in my life.  The more important the item in my life is, the more aggressive the Hawk is at getting my attention (such as sitting on the lamppost in the front of my house, or flying within a foot of my windshield as I'm driving down the road).  The timing of these occurrances tell me that Hawk is trying to get me to do something or to tell me something.  What's really fun is that when you need your totem (power) animal and you ask for their assistance, within minutes they show up within feet of you.  That's always been cool to me.

These are just my experiences.  I'm sure other's are different.

There are so many misconceptions about this topic. First of all, a totem animal is not the same as a personal animal spirit guide. A totem is from when tribal people were in clans; they represented that particular person's role in the community. Sometimes this clan or totem animal also served as personal guidance. Another major misconception is that people think everyone has a personal spirit guide animal and this is not true; I'm sorry. There's reasons, but that's off topic.

To answer the question though, yes of course. These spirit guides choose you; they don't have to be there, and they can leave at any time and do. Accepting such a guide is a great responsibility on that person, and some people have even declined. The reason is that having such can be a dangerous alliance when respect is not given to the spirit in the way it expects it. This includes feasts, offerings, certain lifestyle, and other rites which I fail to see people even mention when they talk about this. Another thing is that when you ask for assistance they don't pop up like in some Disney cartoon; and for the record people with these animal guides tend not to advertise it because there are other people who know how to covet them. So it's really not a good idea. You don't own anything.
