I'm a newbie to numerology, but I've been reading up on it lately, and find it pretty fascinating, though I'm still skeptical.
I'd like to believe that it works, and at first, I was very impressed. My life path number was incredibly accurate (I'm an 11), and my expression number seemed pretty right on as well (2).
The deeper I got into it, though, the less accurate it seemed to get. For example, my personality number is an 8, which seems to be as far off the mark as it gets. Most people that have ever met me would probably agree with this. In some ways, I wish it were more accurate, because I think I could actually use a bit of 8 in my personality.
Then there were quite a few instances where a number would come up that seemed somewhat plausible, but after reading the description for numbers other than the one that came up, some of those seemed to fit much better.
So, I don't know--this all seems very hit or miss to me. I'd like to believe it works, but there seem to be far too many inconsistencies. Unless I'm doing it wrong.
One thing I feel I should mention is that I was adopted. The name on my birth record is "Baby Boy" with my birth mother's last name. This is the name I used to figure out my numbers. But I've been going by my adopted name for as long as I can remember, so could this be complicating things? Also, my parents told me that the nurses at the hospital gave me an unofficial name that isn't on my records (I don't think), but it's the name I was referred to before my adoption (I'm only aware of a first name, and even that, I don't know the exact spelling of). Could this influence anything as well?

numerology is a excellent science ,the problem for many and it seems for you as well is found in not knowning are true nature .we attach to certain numbers and say yes that is me .but then say this are that number dont fit .we are made up of many numbers as a full chart will show some stronger than others .in many cases theres a denial factor as maybe in your case when you disagree with the 8 energy .you said yourself you could use such energy .so maybe it is apart of you. full name at birth is very important in knowning are inborn traits strengths and weakness .

Well, the book I am reading instructs me to use the name given to me at birth, and not my adopted name, so those are the rules I am following. I tried figuring out a couple numbers using my adopted name, but those results didn't seem to be too accurate either.
The thing that really threw me was my personality number, which according to the book is not my "true nature", but the mask I supposedly choose to show the world. My number comes up as an 8. The description that the book gives of an 8 personality is someone who appears strong, powerful and intimidating, and radiates confidence. Also "prone to reckless eating and drinking habits", with a propensity to be workaholics. I'm a pretty small guy, so I doubt I intimidate many people. Most people have described me as quiet, shy and timid. So where the "powerful and intimidating" factor comes in, I really have no clue. Also, my confidence has unfortunately always been pretty low. "Prone to reckless eating and drinking habits"--I don't drink, and I'm a vegetarian. As for being a workaholic--took me 8 years to graduate college, because I never took it seriously as I should have. I sometimes think it would be nice if I had bigger career ambitions, but in all honesty, I'm more interested in pursuing my hobbies and creative activities I enjoy.
I tried to see if I could think of how the 8 description might apply to me, but I'm stumped. It sounds like the exact opposite of how I come across. I say I could "use such energy", because who doesn't want to appear more confident? Unfortunately, that something I don't even think I'm good at faking. If I am, it's news to me.
My life path number and my expression number seemed incredibly accurate, so I really can't say that numerology is all nonsense. Just seems to be inconsistent, as far as I can tell. Which is disappointing, because for a brief moment, I felt a real sense of hope from it. It's something I'd really like to believe in.
EDIT: Actually, I just figured out my "expression number" using my adopted name--also came up with an 8! So that name seems to produce even less accurate results. Not to argue with the results; I just wish I could understand how they apply.

Maybe try using the name the nurses called you with both your birth record last name AND your adopted last name... Might offer up some other possibilities to see which fits... ?? If you're unsure of the spelling, I'm sure you can google it and come up with some form of spelling that works for you! LOL Just a suggestion... I'm interested in seeing what you come up with! I've found that numerology is quite accurate for me, so maybe it's just an enigma with all the different possibilities of your name(s)...? Worth a try at least!
Good Luck!
Sincerely,
Cory

the 8 expression
You have the power and potential to achieve great things. It is both your challenge and your birthright to gain dominion over a small part of the earth. Whatever your enterprise, you strive to be the best and most successful in your field. You are highly competitive and will not rest until you are satisfied that you have bypassed the opposition. You enjoy challenges and rivalry.
You are a realist and a visionary planner. Money and authority are available to you if you are willing to discipline yourself - generally an inborn talent - and persevere in the face of the considerable obstacles in your path.
You are dynamic and have a talent for efficiency. You understand the larger picture, see the broader challenges, and know how to marshal your collective resources to address the problems. You delegate responsibility well; it is best for you to leave many of the details to others.
You are a great leader of people and an outstanding judge of character. You are demanding of those who work for you, often putting things in no uncertain terms: do it my way or don't do it at all!
At the same time, you don't hesitate to reward the faithful and hardworking employee. You are not a particularly tolerant leader; too much tolerance violates your sense of efficiency. You go directly after your goal with courage and tenacity.
You have a natural understanding of money, authority, and power. You are able to struggle consistently after your goal. Eventually power falls to you. Within you lies an innate balance between the higher and lower characteristics of man. Your challenge in life is to balance your higher ideals and your understanding of the hard realities of the earth.
Much effort will have to be put out and many ups and downs experienced before you reach the level of success you desire. Life will probably test you many times with obstacles that seem insurmountable. But in reality, these are merely opportunities for you to learn how to use power and authority in the face of difficulties, and to find out just how much power lies within you.
It is crucial for your success that you balance the material and the spiritual. You have chosen a path that requires balance between giving and taking, reward and punishment, action and reaction. Despite the obstacles on your path, you are a true survivor.
When focused exclusively on your desire for results and success, you can become stubborn and intolerant; you can be driven by excessive ambition, causing you to be exacting and without perspective.
Be careful of your alcohol consumption, a danger-zone for you. You can be a social drinker, mixing business with pleasure - a dangerous cocktail.
