The personal year comes only from the date of birth and the current year. The Essence numbers are more personal (more personal than the personal year?
), combining vibrations from specific letters in your name (transits) and the year. The Essence tells specifically what issues you will need to address during a given year.

So, if your name was
Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla, the vibrations in play the first year of your life would be the R(9), the X(6) and the S(1), giving you an Essence number of 7 from the age 0 to 1. The next year, the R and X are still vibrating, but the S is replaced with the next letter A, which is also a 1 vibration, so the Essence is still 7. In the third year, the A is replaced by an R, so the Essence is a 6. I could go on, but maybe you get the point?
