I have been reading where a lot of numerologist ascribe the following table to pythagorus ...
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
a b c d e f g h i
j k l m n o p q r
s t u v w x y z
first off, pythagorus was dead and buried long before that alphabet was even created, hence there is no way to ascribe those numbers to him or his philosophy per se.
we can glean much from his attribute of numeric values to the greek and roman alphabets (which are the main alphabets of his time and location on the earth). but, we can also learn from his work with the hebrew alphabet as those characters have not a consecutive based numeric attribution system, but one of vibration attribution. many of the more ancient based language have numeric attributions that are NOT consecutive based such as the modern english alphabet.
i have found that ascribing 1-26 (as it reduces to 1-9 on the above table) to be effective in the native modern english language ... not so much because of the sound and correlating numeric vibrations, but because of the way the modern english alphabet comes from so many different sources, to ascribe a consecutive or order based numeric reference (not to mention our extraordinarily linear based society), is quite effective.
however the translation of names using different alphabets should bear in mind that a english translation of your name will not necessarily yield the same results as an english name using this system. if you have translated your name and are living and involved in a predominently western/english environment, the standard 1-26, A-Z correlations work well, but if you are in an environment that is not based on the english vibration, you should bear that in mind when using the 1-26, A-Z system.
if you cannot find an alphabet-numeric correlation for your own language's alphabet, some research would be required to ascertain the origins of the letters and the vibration ascribed to the sound, as that is what the vibration is referring to in its numeric relationship.

Hello Business Voodoo!
I have seen many of your posts in the last day or so. I am impressed by your obvious knowledge and interest in the divination arts.
With regard to Pythagorean numerology, I humbly assume that you are taking aim at my own postings on this topic with the above comments. While it is true that the Roman alphabet is not exactly the same as the one we use today, there are only a very few deviations. (Pythagorus being a Greek, of course, along with the fact that he may have been basing his theories on teachings he (reportedly) received in Egypt, some "baggage" from the transliteration from his writings must be expected, although I don't believe that such "baggage" is necessarily fatal to teachings based on his studies.)
As I am sure you are no doubt well aware, Western numerology was developed, based on the work of Pythagorus, by three women during the 20th century: Mrs. L. Dow Balliett, Dr. Julia Seton, and finally by Dr. Seton’s daughter, Dr. Juno Jordan, who founded the California Institute of Numerical Research. “Numerology: The Romance in Your Name” (1977) by Dr. Jordan is considered by many to be the basic “bible” of numerology.
My own understandings of numerology flows from Dr. Jordan's research.
I understand that there may be divergent points of view on this topic, and hope that persons holding divergent views may "agree to disagree" while still being respectful of the other person's beliefs.
Again, I appreciate your contributions to these forums.
Rob

hi rob ...
yes, and your posts as well ... quite right on ... i really appreciated your nutshell of the house numbers. and my post was not directed to your's in particular, there were several posts (not even on the numerology thread in particular) including the software that attributed that numeric system to pythagorus ...
i guess my real point was, as this forum seems to have several non-english based language people using the english alphabet to decipher their, as an example, russian name. while that may work for someone with a russian name who has immigrated and integrated their lives in the english-based world, and even perhaps somewhat effective within large metros like st. petersburg, etc., those who's lives are integrated with the russian language/vibrational system. if one does not take into account one's own language and numeric vibrational references, it can be very misleading.
yes, many works of numerology and philosophies work quite well and accurately ... i also like eillen connolly's work on the numbers as well ... its like choosing homeopathy, naturopathy or antibiotics to effect a healing ... each one has their own unique way of working with the energy that has been handed down ... whehter ancestrally or via past lives ... to manifest in the vast variety of resources and tools available to us today. i think its wonderful for the variety of methods to work in complementary ways.

I have here an entry from an ancient text called the Voynich manuscript and thought it would be fun to post it and see how everyone translates it using numerology...
Some of the symbols used in the Voynich manuscript are similar to symbols in other scripts or notations. In particular, the following similarities have been noticed in this text:
*Alchemical Symbols
*Early Arabic Numerals
*Latin Shorthand Abbreviations
*Beneventan Script
You will notice that it SEEMS to be in latin...
This is virtually an untranslateable entry from the manuscript. Though they have tried, Code breakers and encryptionists have not been able to decipher its meaning. I wondered if they bothered to try using numerology as well as other alternative sciences to find its meaning. Just thought it would be fun to see what everyone translation may be. Here it is:
ILEXER ILUS YUS PURUS POURLY ILUY YJSUUS PURUS PLUS URICUS
It could possibly also be one of those anagrams that Leonardo DaVinci was so fond of.
