I do find I tend to get impressions as feelings when I am thinking, so perhaps that would work, however that is very none specific and it is difficul to be focused with feelings.
As for hearing things, I do find that music does help me to focus for example when working, and I have wondered if self hypnosis type tapes, etc could help. But again most tell you to visualise things, which has very much put me off.
I will go back to yor lesson and try to think of ways that I can do things with sounds and feelings.

Music can soothe the soul. We all appreciate its affects. But hypnosis is NOT meditation and does nothing to enhance the efforts at communication with spirit.
By all means possible, experiment with what works to soothe the mind, so that you can concentrate on spirit communion.
