when you sit cross legged or comfortably you will want a pillow and a nice park blanket to sit on..
I like 3 colorful small blankets folded and a small (tea) throw pillow. Sit in your room with medita,
or on a chair : facing a higher power altar or a pleasant scene.. facing a mondala design will keep
your eyes busy and you continue have fluttering or moving and may learn relax first then breath.
Sit and remind your relaxation with the meditation you did learn first. It will allow the relax like a
mantara (after mantra learn) with new relax the valu such as Vedic or new mantara Ayur-Veda..
learn to remind with your proper thought what will be your basic medita. then breathe after newly
found peace and relax the eyes with breathing not formal concern and find a position you may on
promise relax the mind , find the solace medita , not breath during m0n ta medita and continue ~
breath and sighing as wanted so you may enjoy moment peace and thought after meditation OK.
Don t uh smoke rit before meditation and remind yourself about 15 minutes between the chai valu
water and about an hour really median while your body digests food. (don t eat drink smoke aum)
enjoy topic. I will continue with my meditation while I am bad and smoke sometimes before m0n~

I had a spiritual teacher that suggested that during the whole day before our meditation session to be calm, unruffled and don't do anything to disrupt your peace. How unrealistic is that when you have to work?
It was also suggested to eat several hours before the session so that you were not hungry and any food had been digested. This is a good one. When your stomach is empty it will gurgle and grunt. And you will be distracted by your hunger.
It was also suggested that you clean yourself with a shower before coming to meditation. In our busy world sometimes students were arriving right from work, with no time to go home and relax before their meditation. It does make a difference.
Lets just say our busy world does not always lend itself to the most relaxed and calm atmosphere in which to begin. But consider your own mind set before sitting to meditate. It is all about you.
When you are calm and at peace, find a quiet room where you will not be disturbed (this is interesting in our busy world), sit on a straight chair (do not lie down as that is conducive to sleep), play some gentle music (no word and not a lead CD) quiet the physical with some deep breaths. You can also do one of those exercises where you stress and release various parts of the body to bring peace. That helps a lot.
The mind and spirit are now ready to be addressed. The mind is going to visualize to keep the body and spirit at peace and comfort.
I do not use the chakras but I do open from the crown to send out my intent to the God of my understanding and from that I see light and color that will warm the body and comfort the spirit during meditation. It is where my energies are brought to peace as I listen to wordless music.
Visualize in the forehead a scene of peace - one of your own making. It is of nature and can be a place you know or one of your creation. When the mind wanders, and it will, blow a gentle breeze and return it to the scene. When you feel altered in consciousness (usual state alpha) invite your spirit guide to join you with a symbol (from nature) and a seat.

BTW if you must sit cross legged, do not sit on a chair - be grounded by sitting on the ground. It tends to give rise to many strong energies to fly around you and be disruptive when doing it in a chair.
