[size=18][/sizeNow we will do the morning meditation. About the morning meditation, I would like to say that the first sep will be the same as what we practiced last night: making a resolution. We will make the resolution five times. After this we will rest for two minutes, taking deep breaths. Then we will meditate silently for a while.

First we make the resolution, then we rest, and the last step is meditation. These will be the three steps of the meditation for the morning. The resolution will be the same as what I suggested last night: breathe deeply, and while the air is coming in keep the thought in mind, "I'm going to make a conscious effort to enter into meditatioin. I will experience meditation." Keep this thought going continuously while the breath is coming in and the lungs are filling up. Fill the lungs as much as you can, then hold your breath for one second, for two seconds, as long as you can. When you breathe in take in as much air as you can, then hold your breath for a while. In yoga these exercises are called purak, rumbhak, rechak. Inhale and hold it at the same time as you make your resolution, let it ring through your mind, then exhale and let the thought keep ringing in your mind; then wait, letting the thought continue to ring through your mind. In this way the resolution will reach to your unconscious mind, deep inside. Your whole being will know that you have made the decision to enter into meditation. Then your whole being will help you; otherwise you will just wander around here and there will be no change.

So first make the resolution, then focus on the emotional state. After you have made the resolution, for two minutes you should invoke the feelings of hope and joy that I spoke about yesterday. For two minutes consider your body to be in a very healthy condition; Imagine that you are experiencing great joy, that every cell of your body is alive and you are filled with hope. Things will happen -- just make the decision. Then feel that there is peace all around you, that there is great bliss inside you, that you are full of hope and every cell of your body is alive and joyous. After this we will do the morning meditation.

During the morning meditation keep your back straight, be relaxed and still. All movement of the body has to stop and your back has to be straight. Close your eyes and take slow breaths, very slowly breathing in and slowly breathing out. Watch your breath. Keep your eyes closed and watch your breath going in and coming out.

There are two ways to watch your breath: one is to watch your abdomen, where your stomach moves up and down; and the second is near the nose, where the breath goes out. Do whichever is easier for you. Most people find it easier to watch the nose. When the air moves in it touches the nose and when it moves out it again touches the nose. Watch that spot where the breath touches, going in, coming out. Anyone who has tried to concentrate on the navel before will find it esier to watch the navel. He should watch the navel, the belly rising and falling. Focus where you feel most comfortable. Watch your breath for ten minutes.

Now we will settle down for the morning meditation. Sit apart from each other. Sit far enough apart so that you don't touch or hear anyone else.

As I said this morning, whatever feelings of joy, of peace, of happiness you experience, they are to be carried inside you continuously, for twenty-four hours a day. How will you do this? There are two ways: one way is to remember and recreate the particular state of consciousness which you have experienced while you are meditating.

For example, during meditation you breathe slowly, so during the day whenever you find the time, when you are not doing anything in particular, slow down your breathing and keep your attention on the spot under the nose where the breath enters. Remembering these feelings, imagine yourself to be feeling happy, joyous, silent and nourished. Bring these feelings back. Whenever you remember -- going to bed, waking up, walking on the street, wherever you may be -- bring these feelings back. The result will be that many times during the day this rememberance will strike at something inside you. And a time will come when you will not have to make any special effort to remember; it will be with you constantly, just like your breathing.

So first, you have to continuously remember these feelings within yourself, whenever the thought comes to you. For example, while lying in bed remember the state you were in while you were meditating. When you go for a walk, when you see the moonlight in the night, when you sit under a tree and there is no one around, when you are alone in your room, remember the feelings. Travelling on a bus or travelling in a train, sitting alone, close your eyes and remember these feelings. Even during the day when you are busy with your work, even in your office, get up for a few minutes and go to a window, take a few deep breaths and try to remember that state of being.

If you do this even for ten or fifteen times a day, remembering for a minute or two, it will become more and more continuous. Slowly you will find that there is no need to remember -- it will remain with you. So this is one way: by carrying whatsoever you experience in meditation in your thoughts and letting it enter into your consciousness.

The second way is what I have already suggested to you, that when you go to bed at night you make your resolution. The way to make your resolution stronger is also a way to make your state of meditation, that night when you go to bed, do the same: recall inside whatsoever you have experienced during meditation and the same experience will be with you for twenty-four hours a day.

The exercise that I have given you to make your resolution of throwing your breath out and making the resolution and then taking the breath in and making the resolution... when you experience a state of silence, then using the same procedure, bring the thought to mind that whatever you feel during meditation will be with you all the time like an inner current. By repeating this thought to mind that whatever you feel during meditation will be with you all the time like an inner current. By repeating this thought you will find the feeling of meditation without any effort. It will be more beneficial if the two things are done simultaneously. Later on, when we talk about the purification of thoughts and emotions, we will be able to discuss this more deeply. But you can experiment with both these exercises.

During the course of twenty-four hours you have a lot of free time on your hands when you don't have anything worthwhile to do. If this free time can be used to remember these moments of meditation, it can make a tremendous difference. Look at it this way: two years ago someone insulted you, or you experienced a tragic incident -- if today you were to try to remember this incident you will be surprised to notice that as you remember the whole incident your body and your mind will slowly come to the same state they were on when you actually went through the experience two years ago. If two years ago you were insulted by someone and today you were to try to remember this incident, how it felt and how you were insulted, you will be surprised to see that your body and your mind will experience the same state they were in then, as if you were again being insulted.

Everything is being collected in your consciousness and it does not disappear. Whatever you have experienced is stored. If you bring back these memories you can experience the same things again and you can go through the same emotions again. Nothing is erased from the human mind.

So if while you were meditating today you felt good, it is essential that you remember this experience at least five to ten times during the day. In this way the memory of this expeience will go deeper into your consciousness, and by remembering it again and again it will become a permanent part of your consciousness. So in answer to the question that has been asked, this is how it can be done. And it is important that you do it.

Very often people make the mistake of remembering only what is negative and forgetting everything that is positive. The basic mistake that people make is that they remember all that is worthless, negative, and they forget al that has been of real value. Rarely will you remember the moment when you were full of love; you will rarely remember those moments when your body felt toally alive. You rarely remember those moments when you felt silent. But you will always remember the moments when you were angry and upset, the moments when you were insulted and when you took revenge on somebody. You will always remember the times when you were hurt but rarely the times which were nourishing to you. And it is very important for you to remember these nourishing moments.

To remember them continually will help you in two ways. Most importantly, remembering these moments will create a possibility for them to happen again. If someone constantly remembers the negative things, it is extremely likely that he will go through the same kind of experiences again. If someone constantly remembers sad things it is very likely that he will be sad again, because he will develop an inclination towards these things and these incidents will keep repeating in his life. All these feelings become stored inside you, and it becomes more and more easy for these emotions to repeat themselves again and again.

Try to observe in yourself the kind of emotions that you have a tendencey to remember. We all have the memories. What kind of experiences do you tend to remember? And remember also that whatever memories you have of the past, you are planting these as seeds for the future and you will reap the same experiences in the future. Your memories of the past pave the way for the future.

Consciously forget everything that is worthless -- it does not have any value. And if you do remember such things, then stop yourself and ask those memories to go away. They are of no use to you. Forget all the thorns and remember the flowers. There maybe many thorns, but there are also flowers around. If you remember the flowers the thorns in your life will disappear  and your life will be filled with flowers. If you remember the thorns, it is possible that the flowers in your life will disappear and you will be left with only the thorns.

What we become depends on what memories we nourish because what we remember becomes part of us. When we think of something all the time, this thought brings about a change in us and it becomes our whole life. Hence, remember everything that you think is good and pure, whatever you think is important. And in life ....nobody's life is so miserable that there have been no moments of peace, happiness, beauty, love. And if remembering these moments gives you some strength, then it is possible that even when you are surrounded by darkness, the light inside you will be so strong that you will not see this darkness. It is possible that there may be sorrow all around you but you are carrying this experience of love, of beauty, of silence within you, so you don't see all the sorrow. It is possible that in spite of being surrounded by thorns, a person may feel that he is surrounded by flowers. But the opposite of this is also possible -- it all depends on you.

It depends on the individual to what heights he wants to reach. It depends on us whether we live in heaven or in hell. Heaven and hell are not geographical places, they are subjective, psychological states. Most of you are in hell many times in a day and many times you are in heaven. But most of you are in hell for the major part of the day, and some of you even forget the way back to heaven.

But there are also people who are in heaven for twenty four hours a day. There are people on this same planet who are living in heaven. You too can be one of them. There is nothing to stop you. Just understand some basic, scientific principles.
