I studied Psychology and mind, brain is much more complicate than we ever imagine lol. Everything affects and influences as it is social, biological or hereditary aspects....
Mind sick or mental illness is never healed by medication, unless the problem is or is related to the hormones level or quantity in the brain and for that yeah, there are some medication to balance the levels. However, usually the most important thing to help someone with mental illness is his/her acknowledge about his/her problem and don't be in denial and be truly willing for help in order to heal (there are some people thinking they don't need help, psychologists are just for crazy people and they don't want to be seemd like crazy... well this is VERY wrong....having a problem doesn't mean you are crazy and getting specialized help it's a intelligent choice as they will guide and help you thorugh the troublesome way to the heal state), well nobody can be helped if he or she doesn't want.
It's pretty troublesome because it affects all the person life, including the surrouding people... My advice is eat healthly, have positive thoughts, try to have a hobbie or a spare time to do something that you enjoy to be able to relax your brain and mind from the daily stress and trouble and have good sleep habits, this things will help keeping our minds "fit"!
