Hello, everyone!
In my last newsletter, I announced that I was training for the USA Memory Championship on March 6. I also made a prediction that I would win! What I meant when I said I would win is that I would win because I was growing, learning and pushing myself. Well, I did win because of that, but I also walked away with the overall No. 1 spot. I am once again the USA Memory Champion!
It has been a whirlwind since. This week my story was in the No. 4 spot on Yahoo! News, and I was a guest on the Martha Stewart Show and the Fox & Friends morning show. In the middle of all this, it can be easy to begin to think the story is about my mind. But I know it isn’t. The story is about the power of the human mind and teamwork. I am fortunate to have on my team former U.S. Navy SEAL TC Cummings, who masterfully coached me to have the mental discipline of a Navy SEAL. This coaching was invaluable to me as I entered a mental tournament with only 90 minutes of sleep the night before.
The support and prayers of one of my best friends, Wendi, proved equally as valuable to me. Without her encouragement and pep talk the morning of the tournament, I am sure the outcome would have been different. TC and Wendi worked with me to develop a strategy and peace of mind, and to maximize the human mind. As I stood onstage and accepted my award, I told the audience, “The story here is the power of the human mind and what the human mind can do if you will just train it.”
I am the National Memory Champion for the second year in a row, but anyone who uses the system I do can see dramatic improvements. You may not wish to memorize a deck of cards in one minute, but let me be your inspiration for new limits that you can push your mind to. TC and Wendi, thank you for being my inspiration.
