These are out of a book i have called " The Buddha's Book Of Daily Meditations " by Christopher Titmuss. I like some out of it and thought id share them.


The spiritual life does not have gain,honour and fame for its goal,or the attainment of virtue or the attainment of meditative concentration or knowledge and vision. But unshakeable freedom of mind is the goal of the spiritual life.


May all beings be happy and secure!
May their hearts be wholesome!
Whatever living beings there may be:
Weak or strong,tall or middling,
Short or large,without exception;
Seen or unseen,dwelling far or near,
Already born or yet to be born,
May all beings be happy! -

- One should cultivate an unlimited loving mind
Without obstruction,anger or opposition
To the whole world
Above,below and across.

Think not lightly of evil,saying,'It will not come to me'. Drop by drop is the water pot filled; likewise,the fool,gathering it little by little,fills himself with evil.
Think not lightly of good,saying,'It will not come to me'. Drop by drop is the water pot filled; likewise, the wise person,gathering it little by little,fills himself with good.

Do not die filled with longing. To die filled with longing is painful.

Hatred never ceases by hatred in this world; hatred ceases through non-hatred. This is an endless truth.

The tears and anguish that follow arguments and quarrels, the arrogance, pride, grudges, and insults that go with them,are all the result of one thing. They come from holding things precious and dear.

There are five ways of getting rid of a grudge. What five?
If a grudge arises towards any person,then one should cultivate loving-kindness,compassion or equanimity towards him.
Or one should pay no attention to him and give no thought to him. In that way one can remove the grudge.
Or one may apply to that person the fact of ownership of karma: 'This worthy person is the owner of his actions and the heir of his actions; whatever he does,good or bad,he will be heir to that'.

By what is the world led around? The world is led around by the mind.
