Look Mommy She Has One Leg
Lenna, 15
I was born different from everyone else, but I know who I am, and I trust God to show me the way. I think my poem, “I Am,” explains it best:
I am loving and kind.
I wonder why people think that I’m different from them because I am not.
My difference just shows.
I hear little kids say, “Look, Mommy, she has one leg.”
I see all the little eyes staring at me and little fingers pointing at me.
I want for everyone not to care what I look like.
I am loving and kind.
I pretend not to hear them say the things they say.
I feel sad that they don’t know that what is on the inside is what counts.
I touch the sweaty handles of my crutches every day.
I worry that no one will like me at first sight.
I cry sometimes when I feel sad about the way I am,
Wishing everyone would see me as God does.
I am loving and kind.
I understand the way God made me.
I trust that God put me on this Earth for some reason
and
If it takes a lifetime, I’m going to find out why.
I am loving and kind.
I trust God.
I have hope.
