Our biggest enemy is the feeling to be alone.
With this fear inside we allow other to exploit us, and by allowing it we never get rid of it, until the one who exploit us find something better.
As said...you need to evaluate your situation.
You must find out if this is your life....if it is enough to get the crumbles each time he want a connection.
If this is not enough, then you must stop giving him what he want....you must get him out of your system....you must open up for other impulses.
If we go around making "pink thoughts", we prevent reality.....if we go around with hopes for reunion we prevent other to enter our life.
So my advice must be; Evaluate your situation...be honest to yourself, because the only person you fool is yourself.....if you want to go on with this person....put up rules or demands that you find will work for your both...if you can't see you two together in a 20 years time...then end it....you are not becoming any younger....but you are in a very nice age...and there is a lot of princes out there....if you allow yourself to see them
