I am the oldest of 3 girls all 3 of us are psychic and medium, so is our father and our grandmother was. It has been this way for generations through our family (back 7 generations as far as I know) My great-great grandfather was a NativeAmerican Shaman and Medicine Man and my father has followed in that tradition. Now my middle sister has kids of her own and they aree showing signs of being psychic and medium.

My question is: My father, sisters and nieces can see spirits and I can't. I can feel when a spirit touches me, but that is it. Is it normal at all for me NOT to see spirits when everyone in my family does. I have meditated and tried really hard to see spirits because they will come to me but I don't know who they are or how to help them since I can only feel them.

If anyone has any advice or ideas I would really appreciate it. This has been eating me up for about a year.

Big hug for you!  Do not fret about seeing the spirits. If you are ment to, when it is time, it will happen.  Too soon, or forcing it could really do more harm than good.  There isn't anything wrong with you.  Just because it runs in the family doesn't mean that you are destined to be a medium like the others, perhaps you have another path.  What are you reall good at, what is flowing naturally through you at this moment?  You mentioned you sense the spirits.  Not always do I see the spirit forms, or hear what they are saying.  But the one things that always happens, is the change of energy I pick up.  I know when they are near me.  After a while I can tell the differance in energy signatures.  Certain spirits that have come more than once I have made mental notes, and I can tell oh, it's that one, or this one.  There are different types of Psychics and Mediums.  Please try not to be so hard on yourself.  In time you will grow to your fullest potential.  I'm still learning this stuff too! lol.  Sometimes I wished for it to go faster, so disappointed with myself.  Felt that I should be further along than I am.  Then I hear from other psychics, and mediums which leaves me feeling encouraged.  We are all at different stages, and different places. And once we stop focusing on the other driver's lane, we can see right in front of our own road that we are needing to travel.

One part of your post kind of reminded me of myself, in a funny way.  It was the part where you said that you feel bad because you can "only" feel the presence of spirits.  At this point (it took a while) I can feel, see, and communicate with them.  But every so often I find myself whining that, for example, I can't talk to them while I'm walking down the street (usually, anyway) or sitting in a restaurant.  And then I think, "WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT, GIRL?!!!"  Here I am, able to do these amazing things for some reason, and I'm asking for more.  Sheesh.  I have to laugh at my own greediness!

I'm not making light of the way you feel--it sounds as if your family's abilities make you feel inadequate.  But you're not inadequate. Each person is given different gifts, and at different times.  Things can take a while to develop, too.  The spirits who help me have told me, over and over, "Just let it happen," and "Lots of time to learn."  I get over-anxioius and impatient, and things just don't work as well.  But when I do as they say, and just relax about it, things happen and progress.  I've never meditated or done anything like that to "make it happen."  It just does, and it only started when I was 45 years old, and it's still expanding and changing.  I realize now that it started at the right time for me--any earlier and I wouldn't have been able to get as much out of it.

The point to all that was that maybe (as I've told others here) you're trying TOO hard, and trying to rush things according to your own desires.  But I believe that these things are given by a power who is a lot wiser than we are, and that it's best to leave things up to that power.

In the meantime, you can feel the presence of spirits (that's all I could do at first, with a few visuals thrown in).  What does that mean to you?  What do you want it to mean, and what would you do if you were able to hear or see them?  (By the way, even if you don't hear them, they can hear you, so it is productive to speak to them and ask them to help you if they're willing.)  My most recent post under "Mediumship"/"Are Mediums Born or Created?" talks about thinking about WHY you'd want the ability to communicate with spirits, and I think that's a really important thing to think about.

For now, use what you have--your ability to feel spirits' presence, and any other skills or talents you have--to try to do good things for others.  By focusing your energy on that, I think you'll find that you move things along in a better direction so that when more "happens", you'll be ready.

Thanks very much for your encouragement. It has made me feel a lot better.

Made me think about how there are certain things I can do naturally and quick that my sisters to have a hard time with.

I guess I just need to stop focusing on what other people in my family can do and give myself some credit once in a while.
