So, I've always loved horses, and I loved to watch them race.   And I was really excited to watch the Kentucky Derby a short while ago.  But one of the horses--a filly--broke two of her ankles and was immediately euthanized on the track.  She was beautiful, and one of the horses I picked to win.  Now I'm so upset.  I thought that what happened with Barbaro was horrible, but kind of an anomaly (and I loved the way his jockey stopped him immediately and got right off, and how his owners tried their best to keep him alive).  I even prayed right before the Derby tonight that nothing bad would happen.

WHY did I watch that?!  It's so upsetting.  What the hell made me think that horse-racing was such a beautiful "sport"?

Just wanted to vent...

Doe,

I saw that on the internet earlier.  Sorry that you had to see that.  Just reading about it made me feel so bad.  Can't imagine what it would have been like to watch.  I'm glad I didn't.  It may sound a little mean but I'm kinda glad that they put her down fast so that she didn't suffer anymore.  I know that they really tried to save Barbaro but I felt worse about that because I felt like Barbaro suffered.  Hope you feel better though.

Thank, you, Clover.  I didn't mean to act as if it was my own personal tragedy; it must have been horrible for her jockey and trainer and owners, and the people who had to euthanize her.  I just feel like a jerk for even watching the race, when I should realize that the horses (unlike human athletes, who understand the risks) don't have a choice in the matter, and that they're almost impossible to "fix" when something like that happens to them because their legs are like matchsticks.  It's not fair, and I'm thinking now that horse-racing should be banned (as if THAT'S going to happen!   )

The poor thing just didn't have a clue what she was in for.

Thanks again,

Doe

Hi Doe and Clover,

You may hate me after this.
I am a very caring, loving person.
Please remember that.
i love animals.

I had 2 race horses, that I wasn't succesful in.

! hurt his back, we think falling in the snow.
We did pool therapy, crystals, I think chacra?(bad spelling).
Lost tons of money.
Had his daughter, she was FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hated horses behind her.
Came in last always.

Doe your right. It's not their "choice", but some horses love to run. They are the ones you race.
They also don't have the human thoughts of what if.
They just get to run.
I wish I could do that. No cares, worries, ect...

I found out my best friends husband won the race. I was joyous. Then I heard why.
I was sad.
Then I thought, this horse didn't suffer, and died doing what she loved.

My best thought is dying doing what I love.

Hopefully thoughts for you, to help you,
live life like you want.

Lots of love to you.
