Below is a brief history of Graphology.

That was the beginning of modern day Handwriting analysis. The word "graphology" was coined by Jean Hippolyte Michon, a
Frenchman, in the 1870s. But the science of graphology itself dates back the times of Aristotle and working towards better
understanding of ourselves through our handwriting.
References to handwriting analysis can be traced to ancient times but not much is known about the history of handwriting analysis before the 17th century. Also it is generally acknowledged fact that, the Chinese scholars already knew that it was
possible to reveal a persons character by reading and understand handwriting trends and patterns.
It was in 1622 that the first known book on graphology (then handwriting analysis) was published, it's author was Camillo Baldi, an Italian doctor of medicine and philosophy (and professor at the University of Bologna). Camillo Baldi wrote his treatise on A Method to Recognize the Nature and Quality of a Writer from his Letters. Baldi stated, “It is obvious that all
persons write in their own peculiar way . . . Characteristic forms . . . cannot be truly imitated by anybody else.” Since its origin and throughout the centuries of scientific studies, in fact, there have never been two handwriting specimens that proved to be exactly like.
But it was not until the late 1800s that efforts handwriting analysis began in honest, with the work of the Frenchman, Jean Hippolyte Michon along with his companion, Jules Crepieux-Jamin developed isolated signs in handwriting and attempted to relate specific handwriting trends to specific human characteristic.
From that time forward, an interest in graphology spread throughout Europe. As a result of the strong European interest, leading universities began to offer a PhD. or Master's degree in graphology through their psychology departments. It can be argued that the greatest advancements on graphology as a science was during the turn of the century when psychology emerged as a profession. Since 1895, over 2,200 researchers have been published on this subject in medical, educational and psychological journals. Interestingly, much of the recent research, as well as the utilization of graphology, still lies in
Europe.
After the emergence and concept of Psychology became a reality and accepted more countries started to look into the use of
graphology. Much of our current day efforts on graphology can be attributed to the combined efforts of Georg Meyer and William Prayer who studied case histories of Freud to further the creditability of graphology. C.G. Jung has also helped further graphology by combining psychology and graphology.
Status of Graphology Today
Interestingly, it took from the 1600's to the 1900's for graphology to spread through the languages of Italian, French, German and finally English and that a good number of studies in German only recently (1980's) have been translated to English by Dr. Erika Karohs, (
http://www.karohs.com/ ) despite the list of graphologists driven out of the country under the reign of the Third Reich. Nevertheless, those graphologists made outstanding contributions to the field in the United States.
It can be argued that, the most significant single breakthrough in graphology has been made in the United States. HRC's CHAPS (Computerized Handwriting Analysis Profiling System) HRC's mission: To develop a valid system of handwriting analysis which would accommodate the high-volume personnel assessment needs of employers by utilizing state-of-the-art computer technology.
After traveling thousands of miles and examining millions handwriting specimens Graphology can be said to have finally "arrived". While the most popular use of graphology is for individual personal insight, Graphologist today are trained to provide counseling guidance; personality traits of workers in corporations; job placement interviews for employment agencies; working with police and local authorities to understand the criminal mind through their handwriting; and with individuals who are wanting to better understand where they are and how to improve on their personality traits. The insights available with handwriting analysis are invaluable to parents and teachers and in any situation where better understanding of human nature is required. In the United States, it is an accepted nondiscriminatory tool and, therefore, meets the requirements of the EEOC.
phewww! That took some doing.

I hope you enjoyed reading it. More to come.
yours sincerely,
