i am writing this really quick so forgive me if i leave out some things or go off on some tangents......

this is all going to be generalized of course
since we are only using an individual's Sun Sign
(the symbolic sign that the Sun occupied during the month of your birth).

for a precise understanding of your relationship potential,
one needs to have access to their entire astrological chart & their significant others' chart as well.

astrological charts show where all the planets are at birth & also the most important thing - the Ascendant.

the Ascendant is the sign that appears to be rising on the eastern horizon at one's birth time.

it is the most important sign in a chart because it represents the time of one's birth at their give locality (longitude-latitude).

this is why some people's Sun Sign horoscopes that descibe their personality don't match up....

if someone has say a Scorpio Sun Sign but a Gemini Ascendant,
then the person will display ALOT of Gemini qualities (talkative, thinks alot, intellectual, etc..) on the outide
& more of the Scorpionic qualities on the inside.

the Sun changes signs once a month & the Moon changes signs every 2.5 days
but the Ascendant changes about once every 2.3 hours.

Without it, no chart reading can accurately be performed (even with the best astrologers, astrology is only about 85% accurate. this is because it is hard to be omniscient  & because of each soul's free will factor that can alter their probable destiny).

other names for Ascendant are Rising Sign or the 1st House.

no sign is better than another.

the soul chooses the one that it needs before taking birth so that it can learn the lessons
it needs to learn here on the physcial plane.

astrology is based on karma & reincarnation.

this use to be in the bible but was removed during pope Constantine's time
because the Church didn't want people to know, among other things, that they had more that one life.

why? because they wanted to control the masses through fear & ignorance of our true natures.

they feared that if we knew we had more than 1 life, we might use this lifetime to party like it's 1999 all the time  & say things like we'll be spiritual next lifetime....

if you don't know who you really are, you are more easily controlled.

we are all water droplets of the Divine Ocean. we are each Divine. the core of each us is goodness.

the planets & signs are used by the Divine as agents of karma - "as we sow, so shall we also reap."

karma & reincarnation explain why some babies die at 2....
why evil people get away with murder while the good are poor or abused...
why some people win the lottery - why some people's love lives never seem to work....
why you & not them or why them & not you.....
why some soliders can make it through 2 wars without a scratch but another gets killed on the 1st day & by friendly fire...
etc....

karma/reincarnation (karma causes reincarnation),
takes away the need for a punishing & neurotic old testament god....

we punish & reward ourselves by our actions (mental, emotional, physical actions).

take away someones happiness & rest assured that one day, your happiness will be taken away as well.

astrology shows your credit or your debts - it's your personal tallying book.

but back to the signs -
all signs have their negative & positive attributes.

the goal of astrology is to go from your lower attributes to your higher attributes (spiritual or personal growth).

like a lower taurus type make be really rich/materialistic & may need to transform that into philanthropy.
or a scorpio type take pleasure in being critical & may need to transform that into compassion
or an aries type may be very impatient & need to transform that into patience & understanding that it takes time for things to manifest here on the physical plane.
etc....

concering the lower attributes -
a person's outer dialogue is a reflection of their inner dialogue & any attempt to cause someone else pain is because they are in pain themself.
so don't hate someone who is displaying their lower qualities, this attaches you to them & can take away your peace of mind.
they are unhappy inside & know that what they really want is your love but they don't know any other way to access it.
that is why forgiveness is really a gift for you. it detaches you from their 3rd chakra (solar plexus chakra of lower emotions) -& bumps you up to your 4th chakra which is the heart = the home of the higher emotions like compassion.

always remember, that good always wins in the end.
that is just the way it is - it is a higher vibration, a higher note...

please don't misunderstand me,
i am not saying that you should roll over if someone verbally, emotionally, or physically attacks you.
i am just saying to use your intuition when choosing what response you decide to take when dealing with a negative person.

But I digress back to the elemental compatibilites

Sign are broken up into 4 elements just like in the Tarot.

* i will list the positive traits for now

(1) Earth - practical, good with finances, nature loving
(2) Water - emotional, caring, nurturing
(3) Fire - inspirational, enthusiastic, passionate
(4) Air - intellectual, scientific, friendly

earth signs are:
taurus
virgo
capricorn

water signs are:
cancer
scorpio
pisces

fire signs are:
aries
leo
sag

air signs are:
gemini
libra
aquarius

earth & water give long-term "harmony" (if it's the right time & both souls are mature enough)
fire & air give long-term "harmony" (if it's the right time & both souls are mature enough)

so basically earth types like water or other earthy types
air types like fiery or other airy types
etc....

so scorpios are karmically drawn to taurus types
libras with aries
cancers with capricorns
etc....

people with the same elements & same signs can have quite an affinity with one another.

like cancer with cancers can become an emotional roller coaster.
airy people with other airy people can become too airy (thinking but never acting).
fire signs with fire signs always butting heads with each other.
etc....

but sometimes during one's early teens or early 20's,
most people can become attracted to their "inharmonious" signs.

like earth signs with fire
or fire with water
or air with earth......

this is usually so that they can learn some important "karmic" lessons together.

like an air sign with an earth sign may learn to become more earthy (grounded, stable, etc)
or a fire sign with a water sign may learn to become more watery (caring, forgiving, more in touch with their feelings, etc...)
but this is all generalized because we are only speaking of the Sun Signs...

like my bro-in-law & his wife are: gemini & sag which are air & fire (married for 11 years).

my best friend & wife are taurus & cancer which are earth & water.

however,
my inlaws are incompatible sun sign elements but have been married for 30+ years.
even though they have been married so long, they are totally different people on almost all levels.
she is scorpio which is water & he is gemini which is air.
she is very manipulative & controlling while he is an electrical engineer with a Ph.D. (airy = intellectual) who likes to be alone.

the sun in astrology is an individual's inner core or self.
so when the sun sign elements are not compatible - people are very different from each other on the inside.

the reason they have been together so long can be shown in the astrological charts of their birth.

alot of it has to do with timing, free-will, & destiny but that is too technical & could take another few messages in itself.

But i think i would like to kick the Pope Constantine guy atleast once in my life, i mean after i die, & go to hell where he is, i will kick him & then go to heaven. .

I'm a scorpio with Virgo rising, Taurus moon, Libra Mars/Venus and the remaining 4 planets in Sagittarius.

I get on best with Pisces and Aquarias. The girls in those signs especially are usually so sweet.
