How would you define commitment? On what factors do you think it works? My husband and me were talking about it and we both had different views on how to get someone's commitment.

In my view can commitments take many forms...but in order for a commitment to last....it need to give the giver satisfaction in one form or another....else it is not a commitment, but more a scarification.

Commitment is synonym to pledge. It works only when the person who makes commitment   has moral values.
Many years back I was working 1000km away from my home town Karachi. We have some urgent work just after Eid festival. My colleague who was very old person went to Karachi stay at night at home and returns at work immediately, but I prefer to stay their complete work and go to Karachi after Eid.
My colleague say’s I have commitment with my beloved wife, that if I were alive than I must with you at Eid.
So he bears hardship but fulfill his commitment.
Do not fulfill a commitment tantamount to deceive any one.

I didn't learn much of this trick. but, I've seen people making different senses out of the word 'commitment'. some want you to be 'committed' and they seek 'responsibility' and 'reliability' in you. some think you to be not-so-committed just because you are not subjected to their possessiveness (especially, in case of relationships).

See, commitment is not something that comes with a guarantee card. And again, can you really get someone committed? I mean is it possible?

however, there is a very simple theory that may work. if loving is the best way to be loved (as the wise people say) isn't being committed a way to get someone committed?

I have gone through this topic and loved it.People have different opinion about commitment but according to me it is love.If you love someone then you will always be ready to commit anything for the person.Commitment is something which comes out of heart not from mind.So according to me commitment means love
