I have often wondered this myself!
My maternal grandmother and great-GREAT gramma were true kitchen philosophers. The Gathering of Women would begin in the kitchen - always- and around the giant, ancient kitchen table. The conversations and topics of discussion were often either viscous gossip or genuine emotional feminine bonding. It was around the kitchen table where the thorny armor was removed and frank, honest communication circled the women around the table the same as did the dealing of cards.
I am immensely grateful for the skills of sincere dialogue that I learned from the women of my family. They spoke from the heart every time, even when it pained them. The spirit of family, of blood, of history, of women and the secret, magical, intuitive forces of the feminine mentored and molded me. I learned almost all the secret knowledge there that could be used in a single lifetime. There is great power that flows between the collective four and five generations of a maternal family line. Secrets are passed without the uttering of a simple syllable. A quick glance or a crooked and worn finger that adjusted my hair with a quick flick told me so many things!
I transitioned from a spectator to an active participant at that table by the age of 12. It may have been achieved sooner, but a cup that's full will runneth over. I had to wait for my place to open up.
Mysticism and mystical subjects have always been part and parcel in my life. I think I may take the freely shared uncensored exchange of taboo and forbidden knowledge for granted too often. I am extra grateful now for this thread and consider it a gentle prompting of Spirit and my crossed over feminine ancestors that I have been less than appreciative.
I wanted to say also that I am now the Torch Bearer of my family. What I've learned from my greatest of gramma's I am passing along now to my daughter and my son - who have both taken the initiative to SEEK from me the same communion I sought many years ago.
Thank you, swetha!!
