Halloween goes back further than the Church.

It marked the third and final harvest of the year, the start of winter, and is still considered to be the night when the "veil" between worlds is at it's thinnest. It is a time to remember those who have gone before us, a time to contemplate the coming year, and a time to prepare for winter.

*smiles* Though I'm not opposed to going door-to-door begging for chocolate, these days, I just buy it "for the kids", and end up eating most of it myself.

Of course all the church celebrations were set in the early church at councils.  And most of these came out of other traditions.  But the church called it hallows eve from which Halloween derived.

I'm gonna go down to Rumours for the party, then wander up to the 'shoe for some munchies, and stumble on home.

If it's raining, snowing, windy, or too-damn-cold, I'll just go out, get a bottle of wine and some stuff to eat, go home, settle in and watch horror movies.
