Attachment can mean a destructive or lopsided relationship where there is no love but self interest. Mutual or real love is extremely binding and properly so. Human needs are extremely complex and they have alot to do with our own needs and how we interract with another's needs in love is perhaps the defining quality that sets love above all other needs.
Love is transcendent in nature. If we find ourself in a relationship where we are diminished, lowered, made less somehow, missing that transcendent quality, it becomes a self explanitory parenthesis. We then know that the relationship is based upon something that will not transcend, that means, no love.
Moderating ourself as well as discernng our loved one's emotions are key to understanding and maintaining a true, transcendent love. Sometimes we may find a new basis in which to establish our love relationship if we are dysfunctional, in fact it is the first thing we must do, find a functional basis in which to love.
