WHAT ARE THEY DOING?!! WHY?!! How could they keep freely-given aid from the people who are left alive, sitting among the bodies of the dead, getting sick, and starving?
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/05/09/myanmar/index.html
And it doesn't seem as if there's a damn thing that anyone can do about it. I am by no means a "military" person, and war disgusts me, but this is a case in which I feel that a military approach would be perfectly justifiable, if it could be handled properly (not too much hope of that these days, unfortuntately, based on recent history...).
Just venting, as there doesn't seem to be anything else to do about it .

I heard that there are US Ships just hours away with medical supplies and food and such just waiting for an ok to go in and help these people. It's insane that they aren't allowing anyone to come in and help those poor people! And what little aid they do allow in they are taking for themselves and not giving it to the people that need it.
My question...You see lots of coverage on the news, and interviews with those involved in the disaster...Why can't the reporters bring in help!?

Hi, Bandit,
I agree. Unfortunately, I don't think that all the reporters in the world could carry in anywhere near enough to save all those people, and I doubt that they'd be any more allowed to do it than the U.N., etc., anyway. I mean, one hears about repressive governments, but this is completely criminal, and evil.

There were 4 UN people there to help pass out aide. @ were deported, and they let 2 stay.
The military government is afraid of outside help, especcially western.
China is trying to help.
With all of this coverage, I pray the world will wake up, and the right powers can get that govn. to
help their own people.
Lots of love to all of those people, and you guys also.

I found this information on the internet:
The top U.S. diplomat in Myanmar says the junta is not ready to accept American aid workers to help cyclone survivors.
Shari Villarosa, the U.S. charge d'affairs in Yangon, said she met with Myanmar Deputy Foreign Minister Kyaw Thu on Friday to discuss American relief operations.
Myanmar says it will accept aid from all countries, but prohibits the entry of foreign workers who would deliver and manage the operations.
Villarosa said she was told the junta is "not ready" to change that position.
The World Food Programme said two relief flights will be sent to Myanmar on Saturday, just hours after suspending flights due to "unacceptable restrictions" by the government.
"The World Food Programme has decided to send in two relief flights as planned tomorrow, while discussions continue with the government of Myanmar on the distribution of the food that was flown in today, and not released to WFP," Nancy Roman, WFP director of public policy and communications, said Friday.
She added that enough high-energy biscuits to feed 21,000 people, which were airlifted on Thursday, have been delivered over the last 24 hours to some of the worst hit areas.
Earlier Friday, the WFP suspended aid flights into Myanmar because of "unacceptable" restrictions imposed by the country's military rulers.
"Two flights landed this morning with food, which has not been taken out yet," Myanmar country director Chris Kaye told AFP in Yangon, without specifying why the supplies had not been unloaded.
Myanmar has maintained strict limits on foreign involvement in the relief effort, despite calls for it to allow unfettered access to experts whose skills are vital for an effective response.
The regime said it was not ready to let in foreign aid workers, and although it needed supplies for the survivors of the cyclone, it would handle the distribution itself.
