At the moment the world is facing so many different arenas of conflict and getting worse by the day. Food shortages, oil costs going through the roof with no slowing down in site, increasing costs of basic food items like rice and flour, constant worry of terrorism and nuclear control and of course . .  WAR.

I feel that possibly the 'root' or common denominator to these conflicts is a 'simple' 3 letter word . . . EGO.

One of the definitions I found was, "An exaggerated sense of self-importance; conceit."

I believe that the major cause of all fear, pain, negativity, etc. is EGO whether it is between 2 people or 2 nations. I also believe that if you remove EGO the ultimate result is balance and harmony.

So with this in mind I can't help but think and wonder 'what if' EGO did not exist or better yet if our leaders would take a step back an ponder what this means and what a different planet this would be.

There are so many interesting opinions and insights on this that I thought I would start this thread to hear what YOU think.

Definately the world would be much more balanced and loving if ego was eliminated.

And yet without ego we'd still be living in caves, dying young, dying in childbirth etc.
Every sentient animal has an ego, cats, dogs, you name them, are you sure it's ego you mean? I would say greed or envy fit the bill.
But that's only my view.

The ego is an important human complex that helps us to survive in our world.  It also helps us to accomplish our own best good.  When we become too ego ridden, we can become destructive in our race for our own self fulfillment.  The ego is not the problem.  How we apply the ego is the problem.  

Another thought that occurred....human beings have always had war.  Why?  Perhaps it is because we have not grown beyond thinking that is the ONLY solution to world affairs.  When we all look at things from love and stop using war as our means of trying solve problems (which, to date has not worked anyway) only then will we have some semblance of balance and harmony in life.
