Hi,
In the Chinese culture where males are desired over females, the one child policy of China (which I believe causes the killing of girl babies) will create a bride price tradition that will run out of control.
Where is the future chinese population to come from when there is a dramatic difference between the number of females and males?
The relatively small number of females will bring about a high bride price to be forced from the males who wish to marry and have a family.....so I guess if nothing else, the desire for male babies within the one child policy really will have an effect on that country's population.

why would you wish your first born dead for your second born becouse of its sex??? I WOULD NEVER GIVE UP MY FIRST BORN!!! and why only one child??
most of the lessons you learn in life are from siblings... i know they are trying to keep there population down... but to kill a baby before it can defend itself? to wish that the MALE race be higher then a females... why?? why is it ALWAYS men that are regarded as the top dog... women are considered to be greedy selfish people and are called whores while MEN dont get called a whore slut hoe the get called players!! and that to them is a compliment!!! way to go studs!!! you once again are being held higher!! sorry for my worthless babblings but this is just sick... and i have witnessed somthing realy bad just yesturday whilst i was at the mall.... and that kinda triggered teh memory... this world is so evil and wrong

Hi,
I understand your concerns, but in some countries the culture is male dominated while the females are just for breeding.
And of course, those people believe they need sons to support them in their old age - the more sons, the more chance of being looked after by them. They don't have social services for the welfare of their aged or invalid population.
Unfortunately, in many "third world" countries, the old customs make it difficult to accommodate the one child policy, hence many in China choose to allow only male babies to be the "one".
But when of marriageable age, the females will reign supreme...they will have so many men around, they can choose the most highly educated, wealthiest males to marry and have their own one child!
We in Australia consider ourselves most fortunate because we have welfare services when needed to look after all our children, and unemployment benefits, invalid and age pensions when circumstances change, and a free public education system that allows to senior high school age.
But most importantly, the Government pays family allowances to encourage several children and, where only one parent cares for the children, a "sole parent" benefit (regardless of whether mother or father has the children in care) that provides the equivalent of unemployment benefits.
A very lucky country indeed compared to many others.

Man that's sick. Now I'm wondering what they'll do to twins, or triplets...
