Hi everyone, I guess I’m a little late but this is a very interesting thread. Please, allow me to do a little visualization or imagination exercise. (Please be patient with my writing for English is not my native language)
Imagine that you had planed to go to the country this morning on a family picnic, you’ve been planning it for some time and you have everything set, the food, the drinks, a good book to read, the toys for the kids, you had even pictured the spot where you were going to set up your camp. A place you saw on a picture, near by a lagoon, with a beautiful waterfall on one side, and a beautiful river coming out from the other, with calm crystal water, where you can even see the fish swimming. On the north side there is a small hill from where you can see some farms and hundreds of miles of sowings, maybe corn or wheat, crowned with an spectacular view of the mountains at the end where you can even see their snow covered tops.
So you take the family and go, get to the place and set up a camp, it really is beautiful it’s just as you had imagined it, pictured it and visualized it and you’re having a great time, the kids are having fun bathing in the lagoon, you hear them laughing and splashing in the water, your partner (husband / wife) looks so relaxed and peaceful you hadn’t seen her/him like that for a long time, you fell so much love for your family that you will like to stay there forever.
But all of sudden it begins to rain, I mean really pouring, the roaring of the waterfall grows to a point where it won’t let you hear your own thoughts, the lagoon and the river start dangerously growing and you get concerned about your family’s safety and start driving to one of the farms you saw from the hill. While you drive you get disappointed and angry, you have been planning this for months, you ask yourself, how could this happen? This is really bad luck.
As you enter one of the farms, looking for shelter you see an odd picture, the farmers, adults and kids are out on the rain dancing and singing and laughing as if they were mad, you drive near by and ask them, What’s wrong with you?, What on earth are you celebrating for? Can’t you see the day is ruined? - One of the farmers, the older one, comes up to you and say. - Ruined you say? On the contrary is the best day we’ve had in a long time!
You see it hadn’t rain for months, the water wells were dried, and our crops were almost lost, this rain will feed the plants and fill the wells again. That’s why we celebrate; for us this is a blessing!
Well what I would ask is, Did reality changed?, I would say no it didn’t, I mean it is raining, and for more wishful thinking that we apply, it’s going to keep raining until it just stops, but what for us is a total disaster and a disgrace, for the farmers is a blessing.
In my humble opinion, there is only one reality. What changes is the way we perceive it which is determined by our convictions, believes, thoughts and interests. We can change our thoughts, and the way we look at things and perceive diferent realities, it´s all about the choices we take in life.
