bad news:(((
mom dad's house is filled with 2 feet of water. on the roads there is chest level water. the water level is decreasing ...but may again rise in the evening due to high tide. they r fine, staying at someone's place. there has been no power, telephones dead, mobiles dead, no food...and heavy rain warnings for the next 24 hrs!
brother's clinic (he is a dentist) is flooded too and all his chairs and equipments must b floating in the water!
hope the sitaution improves soon:(
feel so bad... and cant do anything about it staying 2000km away.

Cheer up. Situations is fast returning to normaly. There have been problems everywhere in Bombay. Thane was also very much affected but now I receive report from my sister in law and it is much better. Her phones are working. She stayed two nights in someone else's flat on the first floor in Vrindavan Society. The water level at certain places was like mini Tsunami 10' height. Maruti cars and other short height cars just vanished in the water. BEST buses two of them were afloat. A couple of Tata Sumo's overturned, About 6/7 corpses floating in water. Damage estimate will take time.

It appears all the dams around Bombay were opened. The one in Lonavala, Badlapur, Neiki River etc. etc. and the water flowed through Nullahs and Gutters inside the houses. Kurla L.B.S. Marg was full of 12' Water, Western Express Highway in its history never had been like this. 8 to 10' water for a stretch of 2/3 kmgs. Sion station is under water with boys swimming, I was stuck up in the traffic for 6 hours with the battery down dead and only through HIS blessings revived and reached Home at about 10.15 P.M. in the night whereas there were reports that people were sleeping in their car with no water and food, people left their cars on the footpaths and here and there and walked home. Everyone seemed to have strong pair of legs and strong will power and good resistance to rain. Mineral Water, Millk, Biscuits, Bananas, anything to eat sold like hot cakes in no time. The traffic was such that nothing could pierce it. No respect for Ambulance, Fire Brigade, V.I.P.Cars etc. etc. The only way you could see Bombay was by Helicopter or by Air. There were a number of sorties over the city by the newspapermen as they had to report.

It seemed for a couple of days that Bombay going to merge with the Sea so much rains, trees uprooting here and there and people still moving on even in the middle of the night. One of my son's friend left his Car on Ghatkopar Flyover and walked home. His wife did not arrive from office at Bandra Kurla Complex and next day morning he walked to Bandra Kurla Complex only to find his wife already left the previous evening. Where is she, he does not know.

Many ladies in our Industrial Estate left their office to go Home on Tuesday evening and waited whole night at Sion in Darkness ( no electricity in most of the places due to precaution the current was switched off ) the same ladies returning back to work from the Station to the Industrial Estate only to find the Units closed. There was havoc but still people have braved all this and come out of it helping each other. Many organisations gave Orange Juice to all and sundry, Pure Drinking Water and people opened a Langar where food was distributed to all those hungry.

Man is a great human being and if he can be a villain there is kindness also inside his heart and he cannot help helping others. But we do it only in a crisis. The whole traffic managed in the Sion Area was by us common people whereas the Police -- RTO were silent spectators and once the water subsided traffice was cleared within 3/4 hours time.

Now sooner you are bound to receive news from your relatives as Sun is shining Brightly after 7/8 days. In USA when I went in 1988 for a pleasure trip they would predict by the hour and minute when it will rain, even if it be a drizzle, and you can be sure right on the dot there would be rains. Here the prediction goes haywire and hence many many women folk and men suffered not to speak of the School Children stranded in buses here and there.

There is no electricity at my Home but there is electricity at my office nearby. Till yesterday no internet connection and T.V. cable was shut down. But today the net is working and T.V. cable is still shut down.

Well after all this we have survived and I am sure your relatives will also survive and never forget this incident in their life.

havent had any contact frm my parents. was damn worried. then atlast got thru today to my sister in law who has been in her office since tuesday!
