Meteor Showers: There are two meteor showers during July and August:
Delta Aquarids (July 27th), and Perseids (August 12). The best time to watch a meteor shower is after midnight. If you can't look on the day they peak, try watching several days before or after that date and you will still have a good chance of seeing some meteors!
Planets: During July, Venus can be seen low in the west to northwest sky just after sunset, while Jupiter can be seen higher up in the western sky. During August, both Venus and Jupiter can be seen low in the western sky after sunset, with Venus being higher in the sky than during July.
Constellations: During July and August, the three stars of the summer triangle, Altair, Deneb, and Vega, will be easy to find when you look high in the sky. During August, use the summer triangle as a way to find the Milky Way as it crosses the sky. Other constellations that are easy to find during July and August are Cassiopeia, which looks like a lazy W in the northeastern sky, and the Big Dipper, which is easy to find in the Northern Sky after sunset.
