Is wanting to be popular a bad thing?

Hi all,

The topic about you on the internet and you in real life got me thinking. Is it a bad thing to want to be popular? I think we all just want to be accepted. Like myself for example, I'm been working real hard to move up the soical ladder and I'm starting to see results...slowly seeing results. Because of this I feel better about myself, I'm actually happy sometimes.
So I guess the question is, is wanting to fit in a bad thing? And how far is to far when trying to become popular.

Thanks!
swetha

In my opinion...No...it's not a bad thing.....it's the fuel that makes you going....it's the fuel that gives you inspiration.

But it is like a doubel edged sword, if you use this popularity to build your Ego into something unplesant then you have failed.

Popularity is something that comes and can never be asked for.

If you look at mystick board, you can say it is popular.
It has 50.000 downloads today, there are seldom less then 20 guest on at any time.
We are constant hit by "spam posters", this show that they see MB as a "popular site"

But what MB did't have was the recognition from all it's free users.
Even if you want to do good deeds and not have in mind to get any rewards for it, you need recognition in order to go on and keep the spirit.
When you do it "naturel" eye to eye, you don't need any words, you can see it, when you do it from PC, you only see a screen with numbers.
So , on Internet you need more response from the reciver.
Whit this I mean, take  part in discussions, be a part of the commuinty, you don't need to be here day in and out, but give a word and a thought, you might be surprised how many nice people there is here

I myself have got this recognition, I have been appointed the sites "Grandpa" and recived many "love messages", this gives me the fuel to go on for this commnity family, where there is a lot of good people....and I can see this is your first post so I welcome you into it

Well, if you get involved in something bad, the whole world will know.

And the press will haunt you.

Whatever it is, wanting attention is very normal. You DO want to have a job do you?

There is never a problem with wanting to fit in, but it has been my experience that if you have to change who you are, and what you stand for just for people to like you then you are just tring to fool others and yourself. Now you might be able to fool the people around you but you just cannot lie to yourself. So be sure to be true to yourself. Believe me when I say Speak from experience. I did that very same thing and when I thought I was getting what I really wanted I came to the realization that my life up to that point was nothing but a great big lie. It took some time to recover that kind of shock and be able to heal and be the person that I am today. Now I have a wonderful family and i know now that it is not what people think of me as a person, it is how you view yourself. Somy advice to you just try and find yourself and dont let other peoples opinion get you down as long as you stay true to who you are and what you stand for then people will respect you and respect is the key. If people do not respect you then they really do not know you.
