I strongly suggest you decide if you are a visual (sight) person, an imaginative (using the mind to create), a hearing, person and how strong each of these senses is to any activity. Do you go for a walk and just let your mind rest while you exercise your body? That, too, is a form of meditation.
Meditation means: think (concentrate) upon. So we can look at and concentrate on a door knob and we have quieted the mind to the point of meditation. Meditation is a state of your consciousness.
When I meditation I lead a group into a sense of relaxation by suggesting a couple of deep breaths into the diaphram. It is to be gentle and steady breaths. You can visualize a light of God entering and releasing all your tensions that accumulate in the body. (At this stage we are making the body comfortable to be able to forget about it when the mind is working)
Then I suggest we open a channel from the crown of the head to allow light, warmth, God-energy to flow into our body and we visualize it coming of a specific colour of our own choice and it relaxes us as it flows through the head, then the shoulders, down the arms, down the torso, over the hips, down the legs, exiting through the souls of the feet. In this flow the negativity is being pushed out and the light is entering.
Place a visual in your mind's eye...I like a garden...any other place in nature is good. You can now relax in your garden (or place of peaceful energies). If you wish to use techniques to connect with spirit entities then there are exercises for this purpose as well.
