There's nothing to explain. The poem says it all. Every loss leaves me hollow.

I Cried Today

I cried today because someone
I knew only as a username died
I might’ve replied one of his posts
Once, I told him I liked his work
Nothing else but a cyber-stranger
But somehow he was a real friend
Since I’d known him for six years
I cried today because I  did care.

People you meet online can mean just as much to you as people you meet in person.  My only serious relationship was with a girl I'd met online.  Despite the insurmountable distance between us (I worked it out to over 15,000 km, or 9,900 miles for you American folk :P) we stuck it out for almost two years.  We loved eachother then, and truth be told, we still do now.  We've just resigned to it never being meant to be.  I was only 17, almost 18, and I knew that she was the girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.  Not the childish kind of love, where you're ready to spend your life with everyone you date, but I seriously would have proposed to her, had we but been in the same country, at least.
