From where do prophecies and messages of the future come?

If from God/Source, how do you know it is God or Source?

If it is from a spirit, why should you trust that spirit?

I like this one thing I heard about prophecies once. A prophet is not judged by the things that come true, but by the things that do not, for a prophecy is just one of many futures that are possible if one does not change their current path. A warning perhaps, that we may use our freewill wisely and make choices that do not cause harm nor destruction nor ill will towards anyone or thing.

If you don't trust you will never know the outcome.

We just need to know where that trust lay. I only trust One.
