Dreams are about our own unresolved emotions from the conscious state.  The symbols (people, places, things) are used to resolve these emotions.  Each symbol represents a part of self.  

It would appear that you were trying very hard to come out from under the control of your father.  The decisions being made on your behalf were just not right for your life.  You called on spirit to help resolve this issue and you were avoiding it being about you making decisions for yourself.

Now that you have unleashed the dogs, you can no longer control the situation.  Hence the attack, which is upsetting you.
