last night I remember being relatively deep under water(in waking life I can't go very deep or my ears get clogged and bothered by the pressure) there were other people under water and on our way up to the surface. It was ocean close with shore on either side or step rock. I thought I'd time it so I had my lungs empty by the time I reached the surface, but I was half way up and feeling the irresistible need to breath. I breathed hesitantly as I know the feeling of nostrils full of water, and only air seemed to come through. This is about all I remember.

If I had dreamt this I would see that as a sign that on the one hand I might have the notion that emotions (water) might suffocate me and yet discover I can still live with ease and breathe = live calmly even when fully submerged in the emotional world.

It seems pretty much like a lucid flying dream... We can't fly in the real world on our own without some tool such as a plane, and this idea is so embedded in our mind that we normally are fearful of flying even in our dreams. To fly in a dream is a sign of powerful feelings of freedom and liberation. That bBreathing under water is impossible is a similar embedded idea. So, breathing under water without a problem in a dream must be close to releasing similar lucid freedom and liberation: self-empowerment

Are you in any way discovering a previous unknown confidence in your social life, especially the social life that has an emotional impact on you?

Nice dream!

I often fly in dreams, it's usually the first thing I try when I begin lucid dreaming(more often when i get to be d earlier).

I have been feeling more socially liberated and confident lately.

Also the message to work on heart matters and emotions has been coming to me in many forms. I can admit to having a view of this as being harder then it may actually be.

Also physically I have suffered breathing problems when I was younger which are improving a lot now.

If air is to do with the mind, then flying could symbolize freedom and liberation in thought, and swimming/breathing under water would be emotional freedom/strength.

If you had been swimming solo I wouldn't have asked. But you mentioned several people being with you there.

Yes, that was the association that came to mind... but then there's also the "breathing" which is "air" as well.

You mentioned lessons of the heart... usually I see water as the more sacral emotional level, rather than the heart level. But combined with air or earth (as in beach) it comes closer to the heart.

In palm reading the heart line is also the water line and is to do with emotions, so I connect the the two.

Since flight(freedom of movement through air) is to do with mental strength, and water to do with emotions, then breathing under water could mean being able to still think under emotional pressure. It's easy to get lost in emotions and have this suffocate thinking so to speak.

Thanks for the input. It always surprises me how much symbolism can be found in dreams.

Come to think of it working more on gut intelligence has been coming up to me as something that needs attention also. I imagine this is tied in with the more sacral emotional side which you attribute being under water with.
