Being unable to fly, maybe it could represent maybe being in a creative slump?   I play music and when I am into it can get it right in no time but when I am forcing it, can try it many times and keep messing up. This seems to be what's happening in your dream ... maybe it represents a real life situation where this is happening in this or some other context ?  

I think the song is suggestive also:

"and only I might/can change your mind
and your eager attitude might start to wane... "

Maybe it suggests a lack of enthusiasm because of doing what others want instead of what you want, and so that is why you can't fly, symbolically?

At the same time though, by turning it into your own song, it seems you are able to take inspiration from this adversity and turn it into something positive  

That makes sense. I have been kind of going along with what other people want, and feeling okay doing this as it has been with people who have done and are doing a lot to help me. I recently read in numerology something about giving your self permission to focus, and going along with other people does take focus away from other things but it's also a balancing act as I do need to give back to these people who have been giving me so much. Well I guess I can do that with my creative focus.

Also The questionable motivations could have contributed to the complexity of the dream.
