I have three tattoos, and in my dream, they melted off of my body.

I have three tattoos, and I'm very fond of all three of them.  I have an orange-colored triple moon symbol on my upper left arm, a crop circle nested moon on my upper right arm, and a bright orange jack o lantern on my right calf.  I seldom if ever remember my dreams, and many of the typical dream interpretations do not seem to fit with me.  But, in this dream, I dreamt that the tattoos were disappearing from my body.  I don't remember any other part of the dream, but I was upset that I was losing my body art.  Any theories?  Anyone have something similar?

Tattoos may represent those things in our lives that seem only "skin deep" but may be interesting and fun. They could represent our thinking, our playful ways, and our seemingly unimportant habits. As time progresses, we may realize that our passing fads have become permanent. Thus, a tattoo may be symbolic of something that we inflict on ourselves, is permanent if not deep, and generally carries with it some negativity.

Melting in a dream suggests to me that the negative influence of whatever the three tattoos represented in your waking life has been significantly reduced or entirely removed (at least on the surface).

The true meaning of a tattoo depends on the design. A dream of being restrained and scarred with tattoo needles indicates a resistance to hardship, but remember those wise words: No pain, no gain.

Eye of the Tiger,

That cleared things up a little bit for me, but what I was upset about was having my tattoos disappear, like I was having something taken away from me.  They represent my individuality and my personality.  I certainly don't have any negative feelings towards them.

I don't know if they have anything to do with this, but I'm getting married in two and a half weeks, and I'm going to be going through a name change.  I've had my last name for 31 years, so this has been a little weird for me.  I love my soon to be husband, but I also am quite attached to my last name as well.

Also, I'm out of work and looking for a job right now, but a lot of the jobs out there want you to give up your entire social and personal life for the job, which I'm unwilling to do, unless it is a job I really enjoy.

Perhaps having the tattoos melt off my body represents either my ambivalence of having my last name taken away from me and replaced with another, or it could represent my annoyance that working which is necessary might very well take over parts of my life that I deem sacred to my personality and individuality.

Thanks, Eye of the Tiger.
