i have been dating a guy for eight months and we are very happy together.

however, i keep having dreams that i cheat on him... i usually remember that specifics right when i wake up but soon forget them, i just know that i constantly have dreams where i cheat on him... it's always either with someone i don't know or something from my past like i really respected/liked but haven't seen in a long time.

what does this mean?

To dream that you are cheating on your spouse, mate, or significant other, suggests feelings of self-guilt and self-betrayal. You may have compromised your beliefs or integrity and/or wasting your energy and time on fruitless endeavours.

Hallo! I am sorry to hear that, Dhav, because I always dream I am with very different people even when it never crosses my mind to cheat on my partner (either this one or the one before, and I spend quite a good many years with them). I never worried about these dreams, I just thought them natural. Are we then supposed to dream only of our own mates and absolutely nobody else? And how exactly are we to accomplish that? Anyway, just to let you know you are not alone, Jayla

Hi Jayla,

Dreams of cheating on your partner do not generally mean that you are either planning to do this or that you are likely to do so in the future in your waking life. It also does not mean that you are being accused of anything for which you need to feel especially guilty.

What it does probably mean however is that you do not feel that your own equally important needs are also being considered within your present relationship, and you are only symbolically seeking in your dreams what you cannot seem to find with your current boyfriend in real life. In order to make these dreams go away, try to honestly discuss your deepest feelings with your boyfriend, and see if you can work out a way between you that you can have more input into important decisions which need to be made.

Generally these types of being unfaithful dreams suggest that you presently feel unloved and unappreciated (although this may not be your partner's intention or fault). I feel that if you came right out and told your boyfriend what you are feeling and co-operated in finding a solution to your difficulties in expressing yourself, then these dreams would soon evaporate like drops of rain on a hot tin roof.

The consequences of a temporary break down in communication of feelings between you and your boyfriend. Certainly nothing to threaten or to give up the relationship over. You are already relatively happy as a couple, but you could be even happier if you will take note of this message in your dream, and act upon it together in a positive and co-operative manner with your boyfriend.

Loving regards to you both,

And Jayla....here's a tip on how to remember more details in your dreams......I know you didn't exactly ask for this, but since you've gotten a few absolutely wonderful replies to your main issue....I thought I'd give you my 2 cents on the other one.

Keep a dream journal. It's a great thing....firstly, it will help you to remember more details when you start learning to write your dreams down first thing when you get up and it will help you get more in touch with what your dreams REALLY might have meant. Secondly, you'll begin to see alot of similar things called dream-signs in your dreams and will begin to understand and interpret what your dreams mean to you more often....and maybe even figure out why you dream about certain things like cheating and such (i'm sure it isn't anything bad if you dream about cheating, I'm beyond happily married and still do sometimes...don't worry too much about it, and keep loving him.) Thirdly, remembering your dreams and understanding them can be quite fun...and really useful for waking life too. It can help you understand the true issues behind things you may be dealing with and would like to understand better....and you may even like the idea of recording your dreams down in a cool notebook/scrapbook and after you get kinda good at it, you could make them into stories and impress everyone! And when they ask "Where do you get your material from...this stuff is amazing", just say nothing.....and let them think your some sort of prodigy (I love doing this :D).

Good luck. hope I helped some, if even a little .
