Haunted House Recurring Dream

Beyond the obvious "subconscious trying to communicate something" meaning, I can't quite figure this one out.  I've read Jung, but I can't find any real parallel.  His seminal dream was of exploring the levels of the house (the subconscious). But here it seems the house is less important.  It could just as easily take place in the woods or something.  Is there archetypal meaning to the dreamt persistent poltergeist?

The scenario is always slightly different.  I don't think I've ever seen an apparition in my dream.  It's always just unseen forces impinging upon the dream reality - doors/or windows slamming or as with last night's dream, a stiff breeze that starts up instantly. Always, I feel great foreboding. Last night the activity seemed to initiate after placing/removing objects on a fireplace.  E.G.- remove the 4th stoker and the ghostly wind begins (and I'm aware of this apparent trigger). Last night, as with many others, I wake myself up when I shout, "What do you want?!?"  I never wake myself up yelling out at a dream, so I know that this recurring dream may be particularly significant.

As you seem to be heavily into studying psychology and philosophy, I was wondering whether you were also familiar with the phrase "Ghost in the Machine".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_machine

In summary this phrase is British philosopher Gilbert Ryle's derogatory description for René Descartes' mind-body dualism. Whereas Descartes and many other thinkers of his day believed that the human mind and body develop completely separate from each other and each has no influence on the other, Gilbert Ryle and many free thinkers who followed him believed that any attempt to continue to separate them either structurally or functionally was fruitless, and ignores the great amount of evidence that what is going on in the mind and body at the same time is so tightly associated that it is next to impossible to say exactly where one ends, and the other begins.

While I have no idea as to why why you are experiencing such dreams approximately three months apart, unless you have actually experienced poltergeist activity in your home or have yourself demonstrated psychokinetic abilities (PK) in the past, I strongly believe that they could possibly represent a fairly regular mind- body cycle which is going on within you at present.

Many of such cycles are regulated by chemical messengers or hormones, although most are of a shorter term than being every three months or quarterly. I am also wondering whether or not these dreams or quarterly mind - body cycles could coincide with the changing of the four seasons, and also as to whether this could be possibly having significant effects on your psychic abilities. Many female mediums find that their powers as a medium vary regularly with their monthly menstrual cycle, so I suppose that anything is possible when the cycle extends to around 3 months each time.

Have you noticed any changes in your psychic and/or intuitive abilities, or increased poltergeist activity around you at much the same time as you are experiencing these dreams? Most people who have these problems with poltergeist activity are generally still in their teens and serve as a focus for these, but you may be one of the exceptions to this rule. These psychic energies are being unconsciously projected by the person him or herself into their surroundings, and although poltergeists are frequently referred to as "noisy ghosts", the only spirit normally involved here is their own.

Cheers,

Thanks so much for your input.  I need to go back in my journal and figure out exactly how far apart these dreams have been.  (Unfortunately, I know there were a few I didn't record.)  No poltergeist activity at all in my house.  And the few psychic experiences I have had have been few and far between.

I am aware of Descartes' mind-body dualism theory.  However, I choose to interpret the phenomenon that Descartes observed on a more spiritual level.  On the surface is the ego-mind, which runs the physical body and the contents of which are processed at night during dreaming.    However, that which animates the body, the spirit essence, the Bodhisattva-silent-witness, for all practical purposes, is disconnected from body . I think it is this spirit that occasionally chooses to interject itself into our "big dreams."

Maybe the purpose of the dream was for this spiritual entity to simply remind me that it's there.  Although I think that there's likely something else it wants, if that's what it is . . .

I'll keep thinking on it.  Thanks again!

Lorin

P.S. - I do like Descartes description of the pineal gland as being "the seat of the soul." More and more studies of endogenous DMT seem to lend credence to this statement.  Also, not many people know that this father of scientific rationalism was set on his journey by the words of an "angel who appeared to him in a dream" and told him, "The conquest of nature is to be achieved through measure and number."
