My mom died 5 years ago. I've had numerous dreams about her since, the first one I believe was really her coming to say good bye, the others I'm not so sure. While they're all really dramatic and somewhat traumatizing for me, I can feel her presence more often than not. I keep having these dreams that she comes back and she was alive all along and the feelings are a mix between being very grateful and extremely happy she's alive and being very angry and hurt that she's aloud me to go through such pain and grief over her death for nothing. I dont know what to think, I dont know if she's trying to tell me something because Im so wrapped up in the fact that she's alive. Please help.
May or may not be genuine spirit visitations from Mom

These dreams may or may not be genuine spirit visitations from your mom who passed 5 years ago. Even after 5 years, you may still be grieving for the fact that she is no longer physically present with you, and that you cannot hold her in your arms one more time and tell her how much you will always love her. Whether or not your dear mother died with cancer, the stages of your own grieving process are very likely to be remarkably similar to those described on the following page.

Quote:
The person’s presence

Many people continue to ‘see’ or ‘hear’ the person who has died or have a strong sense of their presence. For example, some people walk into a room and have an experience of 'seeing' the person sitting in their favourite armchair. Other people have vivid dreams in which they see the dead person as fit and well. These are perfectly normal experiences and should not frighten or upset you.

Many people have tried to explain what grief is; some have even identified certain stages of grief.

Probably the most well-known of these might be from Elizabeth Kubler-Ross's book, "On Death and Dying." In it, she identified five stages that a dying patient experiences when informed of their terminal prognosis.

The stages Kubler-Ross identified are:

   * Denial (this isn't happening to me!)
   * Anger (why is this happening to me?)
   * Bargaining (I promise I'll be a better person if...)
   * Depression (I don't care anymore)
   * Acceptance (I'm ready for whatever comes)

Many people believe that these stages of grief are also experienced by others when they have lost a loved one.

There are sometimes when I dream of her and she's just there, not saying anything, kind of like a memory dream. I'm the type of person who believes that dreams have meaning, I've had prophetic dreams and epic dreams throughout my life and these recurring dreams of my mother being alive all along-mean something. Don't get me wrong it's kinda refreshing to be able to see her in a dream, whether it's actually her communicating with me or just my subconcious, I'm not sure, there is so much raw emotions when it comes to my mom, but I can't help to think I'm missing something.

I also believe like yourself that dreams often do have a meaning only to the person who is dreaming them, but that also this purpose may only be discovered over an extended period of time, and with the luxury of hindsight.

Could I please suggest that if you still have raw emotions with regards to your late mother, and feel a sense of comfort in seeing her in your dreams (whether or not there is any attempt on her part to communicate with you) that you might like to either also try to write a letter to her and say whatever you feel needs to be said (then burn the letter as a ritual, to help your mind let go of all the pain), or perhaps the empty chair technique where you visualise your mother seated in the chair directly in front of you, and you tell her everything you would have written in your letter?

I had the same techniques suggested to me by a counsellor in learning to deal with my own raw emotions experienced towards my father (who died in 1989), and the large amounts of energy released as a result of using these two techniques was very liberating for me. To the logical mind both techniques might seem ridiculous, but we are talking here about your emotional mind and deepest feelings.

Take care,
