I dont think you need to find an interpretation this dream, Its almost as if you fore-saw your friend not talking to you. Thats how I see it anyway, I've had quite a few dreams where there is no interpretation needed, its just plainly obvious what it means will happen, or to do, etc.
But, I did find you a interpretation for the phone in your dream: to see or use a phone To see or use a phone in your dream, indicates that you are being receptive to new information. It also represents your mobility. To dream that you lost your phone, represents a lack of communication. You have lost touch with some aspect of your feelings or your Self... dreamcrowd.com/dream_dictionary/8100/telephone.
But of course what happened when your friend talking to you on the phone is indictive to what happens in your conscious/ waking life (i.e he stops talking on the phone, he stops talking to you in real life).
I hope I helped you with this dream. =)

My first thought in reading about your dream is that maybe you haven't really been hearing your friend and therefore he's no longer talking to you. His asking you how you are indicates that there is feeling there, but then he mumbles and goes mute. I wonder if maybe he said something to you at some point before last month and you didn't "hear" him, therefore he doesn't think you care?
Might try contacting him and letting HIM know that you care and are listening, if he needs it.
