The fact that the subdivision in real life appeared much as it did in your dream (minus your attackers) suggests that you were experiencing either a premonition of you visiting such a place in the future, or that you were remote sensing (or were out of your body at the time).

I would interpret this dream to possibly mean that although the housing division appears shiny and new, underneath there are very possibly pitfalls involved with buying a house and living there. I do not think that the neighbourhood is likely to be the scene for gangs of marauding attackers who are bent on causing injury or death to wander where they may (although seeing some places in the world this is perhaps not so hard to believe after all) causing constant mayhem and acts of vandalism.

I tend to think that it is strongly advising you not to always believe that the other man's grass is necessarily greener (or in this case that by living in such a place you would be far better off in any way than you are now), or not to be so quick to judge a neighbourhood or set of circumstances only by how it first appears on the surface. Dig deeper?

If there is any chance that you and your family are planning at some time in the future to move to the new housing division which you foresaw in your dream (or another very similar to it somewhere else) possibly in order to live nearer to your friend, my advice would be to ask the people who already live there about what it is like, instead of automatically accepting everything the real estate agent tells you as being the whole story. Better to be safe than sorry, as once you have signed the contract and moved in to your new home it could be too late (and your decision might now be too expensive to reverse)?

Do you actually have any plans to move house to be closer to your friend, either soon or over the longer term?

As you say that you have no immediate plans or desire to move closer to your friend (as you appear to be as different from each other as any two friends could be, including with regard to your choices about where you would prefer to live ), I would place my bets more on this dream being purely symbolic, rather than referring to an actual move to a similar type of new housing division (in your own local area) in your waking life.
