[Question] How to determine "real" dreams?

Hey guys, I was wondering if there was any way to figure out whether our dreams are results of activities and thoughts that went on throughout the day, or whether it was a "real" dream?

Recently, I've been having dreams about a special someone, and according to science, basically I'm OBSESSED with her.

Also, I've read that sometimes we dream of things that cannot happen to us in real life, and we use dreams to satisfy ourselves because anything is possible in dreams.

One more thing, what about lucid dream? I've had a friend who had a lucid dream, and he was able to control his own dream. He could be one of the people in the game Halo, and be able to do Matrix stuff.

What do you guys think?

There is no need to figure out whether our dreams are results of activities and thoughts that went on throughout the day, or alternately whether each is a "real" dream. I also believe that this is the reason why you are not getting many takers to help you to answer this question.

Dreams have a reality of their own independent of whatever does or does not happen in our waking lives, so the meaning of the label real when applied to dreams has not yet been defined. While some dreams are simply a rehash of what has recently happened when we were wide awake and some appear simply to be mental static, all deserve to be looked at as possibly containing messages which could help us to make our path through life a little easier (if only we could understand their often complex messages, and were both able and willing to apply their lessons in our waking life).

What has science got to do with human feelings and emotions? How can science be used to determine whether or not you are obsessed with a person? Can you put love under the microscope?

Yes I agree with this, but that does not necessarily mean that your dream means that your relationship with her must forever remain a fantasy. Some dreams can be premonitions of future events. At this relatively early stage it is impossible to say which type of dreams these are (fantasy, wishful thinking or psychic prediction). If you never let her know how you feel about her, the only thing which I can almost guarantee is that you are very unlikely to ever find out if you might have had a chance, if you had only taken the risk of being rejected by her on your first meeting.

I have personally experienced several lucid dreams in my own lifetime, but controlling one is only for very advanced dreamers. Lucid dreams are those in which the dreamer suddenly becomes aware that he is not awake but dreaming. Such dreams are frequently filled with unusually vivid colours (over saturated as those on a colour TV, with the colour control turned up to it's maximum) and are often easily remembered for the rest of your life, unlike the common variety which are largely forgotten once you step out of bed in the morning.

Lucid dreams are thought to come from deeper layers of our unconscious minds which are not readily accessible by any other means. Some believe that lucid dreams come directly from our true core or spiritual Self. Your friend is indeed fortunate to have developed such a degree of control over his lucid dream adventures. IMHO

Keep those excellent questions of your's coming (in the appropriate forum),
