Just as MANY of our dreams are BELIEVED to be a reflection of our wants and desires in the physical world, our dreams themselves are not the Universe's means of fulfilling that void you mentioned. The dreams serve as reflections or guide posts in order to motivate us or give us the faith we require to do whatever is necessary to create the best possible conditions for the unconscious desire to manifest ultimately at our current physical level.
Everything which exists at a physical level begins with a thought, whether it is a conscious or unconscious one. Our dreams are therefore only an indicator (not necessarily always reliable) of what is already going on well beneath the surface layers of our consciousness.
Think of air bubbles gradually expanding with reduced pressure as they rise towards the water's surface. These are merely indicators of processes which generate air well below the surface. They are not the source of the bubbles themselves.
In the case of our minds on the other hand, the "thought bubbles" which drift towards the surface of consciousness and of which we become more aware first in our dreams are like images in a mirror which have no independent reality of their own. It is the thoughts which give rise to these virtual thoughts that will eventually manifest in our waking experiences, if we can only align ourselves more fully with the creative energies of the Universe itself.
This is surely a highly empowering set of concepts and ideas by which to live your life to the best of your ability, and to me this is a grand and highly expansive way of looking at how we are each co-creators of our personal reality in co-operation with a power far greater than ourselves.
Nothing too sad or pathetic about that?
I don't know about you, but all this deep thinking is giving me a headache. Perhaps in future we should leave all this to the philosophers amongst us, and not continue as I have often been guilty of of spending an unreasonable proportion of my finite time on this planet, in my head (deep in thought).
