Hi Norma,
Maggots are regarded by most people as being dirty and loathsome creatures that soon develop into equally pesky adult flies. They are therefore believed to represent certain what you may perceive as more negative aspects of your inner self, that you do not wish to reveal to others in case they felt as a result that you were not a worthy person to be their friend.
Psychologists also refer to these "darker" (but not necessarily evil or even bad) aspects of our unconscious minds as being our SHADOW SELF. Unless we are able to admit to having a shadow self and consequently being just as fallible and imperfect as the other people around us, then we will often project what we see as it's worst qualities on to them, and then avoid or possibly persecute them for being what we feel we ourselves are. In other words, people can act like mirrors, reflecting back to us exactly what we reject within ourselves.
Maggots are also commonly thought to symbolise our inbuilt fear of physical death (which is why we have such strong survival instincts), and mainly the decomposition and corruption of our physical bodies. This fear arises because we have either not yet become fully aware of (or have forgotten) that we are the eternal spirit within, and our now discarded outer physical shells have served their useful purpose (and it's component elements are now ready to be recycled). Our physical body begins dying on the day that we enter our current lifetime, but the true self (or infinite spirit within aka YOU) can never die. Energy can neither be created or destroyed, but simply changes it's form. We are (like everything else at least in this Universe) are forms or expressions of this ENERGY.
Do you also regularly smoke tobacco in your waking life? Your answer to this question will determine the most likely interpretation of it appearing in your dream. If smoking is your usual way to relax and enjoy being with your male friend(s), then perhaps the dream is encouraging you to be more honest about your own feelings with him or them, and to not be so hard on yourself when you do not inevitably live up to your high expectations (some might say unrealistic) of yourself. If smoking seems foreign or a dirty habit to you, then this could mean that you need to safely discover new and more unconventional ways of communicating effectively with your men (but not to take up chain smoking simply to be attractive to him).
The world obviously does not owe you a living, but on the other hand you are most unlikely to have a valid reason to excuse yourself for being less than perfect (as if you are a human being and you are living on Earth, then you still have about as much left to learn as the rest of us do).
Your's sincerely,
EOT
