Yes, crystals are formed according to the their most favorable conditions (the right amount of heat and pressure in the "stomach" of our mother earth), with the most stable bondings like following a certain blueprint.
The best example is a Diamond crystal. A Diamond crystal has to be formed approximately 150 km below the earth, and brought up quick enough to the surface to remain what it is. Or else it would turn into amorphous graphite.
