i have a little 40mm fluorite ball, it's absolutely gorgeous. however, i've never tried scrying and i'm quite keen to. do i need a bigger ball?

Size doesn't matter when it comes to scrying, you can use a silver coin, or marble sized piece, obviously the images are harder to see and very few crystals that small have the energy to transmit messages.

I would have to say no, size does not mater you should get good results with any size Crystal ball.
