Hey guys,

Newbie on board...I just wanted to get a better feel for everything?

Chakras, what's it really about?

Is it for self improvement or?

I'm sure there will be different answers but I'm looking for an underlying theme
that people share...a reason?

the chakras are the stars of the body, its spiritual antennaes.
they connect your body to your spirit, soul and numerous astral bodies.
the first chakra connects you to the earth, its located at the very base of the spine where your bottom touches the earth especially if you are sitting in the full lotus position. its color is dark red.
the second chakra is a dark bright orange and it is located below your navel where the pelvic cradle meets in the center of your body. it is called the spleen chakra and is concerned with pulling in fresh energy into your spirit forms and the lowest astral body and also keeping those bodies clean of waste matter. its developement increases a state called body consciousness or being able to merge and transpose different senses. being able to listen or anyalize the energy in things through your hands is one example.
the third is the solar plexus or sun of the astral, spirit and bodily forms its main job is to take the energy of the spiritual planes and use that energy to keep your body warm and lit from within. it is generally a bright yellow orange. this chakra is also primarily concerned with the fitness and strength of those bodies as well. often associated with digestion and it is also the center of the physical psychic sense called a gut reaction or instinct.

the fourth chakra is the heart its colors are pink and gold. it is the seat of your heart and emotions coming from the higher spriritual planes. it is concerned with selfless love, altruism and self sacrifice as well as self love and care of the other bodies through work on the spiritual plane by the physical mind and emotional heart. the heart chakra when well developed can perform great acts of healing and support for the self and others. it is also called the balance or pivot point and is your spiritual bodies strongest anchor to this reality.
the fifth chakra is the throat chakra and is a beautiful shade of green with a little pale blue. this chakra's developement is called the astral voice and can banish evil instantly by either destroying it or by near absolute expulsion from your presence. it is also the star that can heal others and the self by a word or the merest suggestion of wellness and goodwill.
the sixth chakra is you spiritual vision center and it is located between your eyes just above the bridge of you nose. it enables the ability often reffered to as remote viewing. this is the third eye and is also involved in clairevoyance and being able to see aura's.
the seventh chakra is on top of your head and deals mainly with spiritual intelligence and claireaudience. hope this is what you were wanting to know.

the third eyes color is dark blue the seventh chakra is purple, pale violet and dark indigo blue. these stars are the most difficult to develope as well as the most hazardous sometimes. because a lot of people find that when they get them turned on they are unable to turn them off again. this can interfere with daily life in our society because most people do not believe in such things. so my final word is caution and gentle meditation to draw the force called the kundalini up from the base chakra. it will take a long time so dont get discouraged and dont force it. the damage forcing this energy up though the stars is well documented in many cultures especially the hindi. ask them about this and they will tell you that the practice is dangerous and should only be done under a holy man or womans watchful eye and expertise with this practice.

In my own personal experience it is your own body's energy and life force. If you can harmonize with an balance this energy you can feel more peaceful and also use it and direct it for healing purposes. (I also agree with everything Lorina is saying.)
