Holi is a festival of colours, but Isaac Newton has written in 1672 that the illusion of colour in things is the result of three factors: Our visual perception, different wavelengths in the spectrum and the reaction of objects to colour. In fact, all colours are an integral part of “light” that is traced back to the dawn of creation. Even the colours of the rainbow are in reality radiation at seven different rates of vibration (hence the seven colours).
The famous clairvoyant and psychic, Edgar Cayce has said that colours are the spiritualisation of sound and therefore have an influence on our body. Our affinity for a particular colour means that our aura (or electro-magnetic body surrounding the physical body) is in tune with the vibrational frequency of that colour. He also said, that we can change certain areas of our life by merely changing the colours in our immediate environment. Like the Theosophist Madame Blavatsky, Cayce was against the colour black since it represents the darker forces of Nature. Their theory is that wearing black constantly leads to mental depression. On the other hand, wearing white constantly uplifts you spiritually.
This theory is contradicted by Howard Sun in his book “Colour Your Life” in which he has a theory that too much overload of white leads to an unhappy love-life and isolation. In the same book he says that we know instinctively which colour our aura needs at a given particularly time eg. When we feel blue and sad, we automatically reach out for bright, vibrant, happy colours. He says people who need to dominate others favour orange as a colour. When we are red, hot and angry, we need a cool blue to cool us down. Yellow helps us to think at a high intellectual level while red energises us. However, an overdose of red is supposed to jangle our nerves and leads to conflicts and disharmony. When we are cooped up in a tiny flat or a dingy office, we need the green of the countryside.
For our chakras (psychic centres) to be in balance and harmony, we need to wear light colours, which help in making us calm, grounded and centred. Dark colours upset the stability and alignment of our delicate psychic matrix making us hyper-active and even intolerant of others.
Colours have different wavelengths and frequency i.e. their rate of vibration e.g. Violet which is a highly spiritual colour has a wavelength of 4,000 angstrom-units and a frequency (vibrations per second) of 750 trillion. As humans, we can only marvel at the tiny spans and amazing speeds pouring out from the world into our retinas as colours manifested all around us.
Our reaction to various colours is subjective and based on our moods. We are attracted or repelled by a certain colour based on our feelings. Colours can even change and uplift our moods, feelings and attitude. Here, I may add that there are colours, which cannot be seen by the human eye since their vibrational frequency is beyond the range of the human retina e.g. we can’t see ultraviolet or infrared rays, but they do exist in the world.
One can heal the mind with light colours worn as clothes or painted on walls since these colours sooth the electro-magnetic field, which in turn calms the nervous systems. Even blind people can develop the ability to “feel” colours though they have no visual perception. This is because vision, is not required for colours to have an effect on our nerves.
Colours are a shadow of God’s movements. Colour is transformed-spiritual-light. It is vibration within sound. The multitudinous variations of these vibrations can heal us or harm us but colours do have a spiritual influence on us.

Hey Thanks for this! It's interesting but I don't think I am a dominator type. But I love the colour orange & I love wearing orange. Most adults in the U.S. will NOT wear orange - yet there are a lot of Americans with super dominating personalities. I pray I am not one! ;~)
I tend to wear pink, orange, black & brown the most. I noticed that the colours I favor are predominant in japanese art & textiles. I was in a shop that sold new & vintage kimonos & many had a lot of orange, pink & brown. A lot of green too. I love green but for some reason don't own a lot of green clothing.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you. I like reading about color therapy. And when I saw the comment about people who prefer to wear orange I simply had to say something. Maybe that's a virtual form of domination? I am currently wearing seashell pink.
Cheers,
Paulette

Oh yeah! I forgot I too have a lot of red, crimson & maroon in my wardrobe. I wear a lot of red & black. And hot pink & black. I also like wearing gray in the fall & winter. But gray with a pop of colour like red, pink or yellow. I don't wear a lot of yellow but I like the colour for home decor.
I have some white clothing which I cannot wait to wear again. Here in the States they think it's strange to wear white in the fall/winter. I like cream or ivory color too. It's strange I've been thinking about wearing more white - specifically white with silver this year.
I forgot to ask. So is Holi a holiday?
Cheers,
Paulette
